Hello. Im new to this part of the forum. I must say it rocks :)

IŽve just started out doing the "50 heads in a month" thing. IŽll post all heads to see some progress along the way. IŽm a beginner so iŽll need all the help i can get.

leffa,

Welcome! :) Nice to see that you are working on the Portraits Workshop.

One thing that I think could help is if you start to think about form more in terms of planes and angles. Do you have any / many Anatomy books? I really recommend getting one or more of Hogarth's books, as they really explain well how to break down all the forms of the body in terms of basic shapes.

A demo you might want to check out in terms of breaking forms down in terms of planes is here:

TUTORIAL - General Principles of Anatomical and Figurative Art / Cross Hatching (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=374939)
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=374939

Also, the current Workshop in which people are most actively participating is this:

Anatomy Lesson Series: Body Part 2 - The Torso (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=405198)
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=405198

Since the reference material in the above Workshop includes the full figure, including the head, you are welcome to join in that Workshop and do the head and torso - killing two birds with one stone. :) Get out of any Workshop what you need most - if you would like to refine say 5 heads or torsos, then go for it - tailor the Workshop to what you need.

I encourage you to look around at others' threads and to leave comments there, and they will return the favor.

For basic Shading Tutorial links, you may wish to check out the links in this thread:

Personal Sketchbook Primer and Tutorial / Workshop Guide (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=403198)

I look forward to seeing much more of your work. :)

Cheers,

-Rebeccak

leffa, thank you! :) Nice to see another Portrait - one thing I would suggest is introducing more contrast / lights and darks into this piece, perhaps in the background area in particular to really set off the figure. The eyes are really well done. If you get the chance, you should definitely check out Iridyse's thread, lots of inspiring work there:
