View Full Version : Lynda.com Tutorial Question
dude5487 09-25-2006, 09:56 PM Hi, how are all of you? This is my first post in this section of cgsociety. I am looking to find out if anyone has any experience with the tutorial below?
I am looking to learn Painter and plan on purchasing the student version, I am currently using the trial version at this time.

Also if anyone has any other tutorials, particularly video tutorials for someone who is new to painter but experienced in photoshop? Thanks!

i found the lynda tuts useless- i mean just far to basic- not showing you how to exploit the brush engine more like how to navigate a basic application. read the manual instead.

Well, on the other hand, that is why it is called "Getting Started". If you are absolutely new to Painter (and/or digital art), this is a great set of visual aids to get you going.
Most artists I know learn better by seeing someone show you how to get around the program rather than reading about it. If you are one of those, then this may be a good investment. You can do a one-month subscription (I forget how the Painter intro offer works - obviously they hope you'll stay by looking at other titles they have...for instance, they have Bert Monroy's Photoshop lessons and there is some great info there if you use Photoshop) for $25. That's not bad at all.
I have a year subscription because I use Motion and many other programs and they have some great training for it. I am definitely one of those that learns visually...when I teach, I make videos because it's an easier way to show something for me.
It really depends on what you need.

Thank you both for your info and time. I am looking into working with Painter and wanted a good start. Is there anything else one can recommend?

Yes.
Go to the Wiki button up top and in the search put John Derry. Read all of John's articles and practice in Painter.
They're wonderful to get to know Painter.
