Hello,

I'm currently making a vevet material, euh I mean, trying to make a velvet matérial :)

There was a post about velvet in the forum but I couldn't manage to make realistic velvet. Here's the result, don't think it's kind of velvet... I blended a metal shader and a o-n-b one with a falloff as mask. I'm completely confused about how velvet reacts to light etc... so dunno really how I have to configure the shaders and if a blend between o-n-b and metal is a good method.

Any help would be very appreciated, or if someone know where I can find a good tutorial.

Thanks a lot in advance,
Regards.

Hye,
Start by reading an article on cartoon shading to understand how the FALLOFF map works.
Then read it : http://www.munkmotion.com/tutorials/nsx/3b.htm

Now you now how to use falloff to simulate velvet shading.

Thanks for the answers, very nice of you, here's what I came to, guess it's better, but I should tweak a little more... I think it has still a too "plastic" appearance. Maybe I should put a little bump in it, what you guys think ? thanks a lot for the help.

regards.
