this is my entry to the blizzard art contest 2006.it´s based on a hidden level in starcraft where you discover a mixed race between the protoss and the zerg.as you actually never see that race, i thought, i´ll give it a try :)

Hi,
Nice render.
Do you have a WIP?
Good work with the slime etc.

Good luck for the comp.

wow you can really see the details in the full res pic. Great job! I only wish you broke up the shader here and there so that some places were shinier than others and such. Keep up the good work!

Cool looking creatures and impressive composition. Texturing is really good. I had to double check to make sure it was a 3d image. Very cool stuff....

thanks a lot for your comments guys!
sorry but there´s no WIP.i´ve realised to late that i can participate in that contest so i had to rush through in 2 weeks and didn´t spend a thought on WIP.but here are some really cheap renderings directly out of zbrush, just to show the model.
@syndicate:jup fusion for comp.but almost no layers.even both creatures on one layer.no shadow path etc. just some colorgrading.
@Milivoj-Lemonade3D:as i said.no time for anything.just some fast photoshoping to establish the mood ;)

Awesome, I never would have even remembered the mentioned of these guys but this concept is cool, the hybrid protoss elements look amazing. I like the more zerg like parts too though it seems there's a few parts that seem more like internal goopy organs than exoskeletal.
regardless it's a great piece. soo much detail.

...this is by FAR my favorite of all the entries! The model is astoundingly disgusting, if not revolutionary. The displacement map is crusty, filthy, and wonderful! The render itself is really quite refreshing, not your mainstream ray-traced blah but a very artistic and sloppily beautiful style I have yet to come close to in CG...
So, for what it's worth : AWESOME!

thank you guys! :)
i wanted the zergish part to be more organic, disgusting n slimy ;) and less exoskeletal like bugs. i think it´s a little creepier that way.there are some zergs in the original game that have such tendencies, but blizzard probably didn`t have sss when the game came out.but i´m quite sure they would use it a lot for the zerg :D
just a little question: how can i post pictures so they do not appear as attachments and thumbs but as the whole image???
Hey love the design of the creatures! You did an amazing job. Now I know why we couldn't do any OC sessions ^^
Keep it up and good luck on the contest! 5* from me

Hey, got to write here too!!
Great creepy creatures with all these ....uhm ... things around their necks!
Makes them perfect predators: You would probably still wonder what's most disgusting about them (the insect-like exoskeleton or the jucky tentacles?) before you suddenly notice that you have their claws in your chest and the tentakles fishing out your brains... :scream:
good lucK with the contest - this rocks! :buttrock:
