Decided to get back to some lowpoly lovin. I've been doing a lot of high poly/normal mapped characters lately and I just needed a change. Fantasy, swords, and eyepathes! Ok, modeled this guy yesterday. Today I get to UVmap him and start the texturing.

lookin good man. the butt's a bit high and small. can prolly fix it with a deformer. well, that's if you want =D just my opinion. anyways, i took a look at the other stuff on your site and i gotta say, i'm impressed. i love the alien gunslinger and that recent bust you did that's on your sig. are we gonna get some tutorials from you? looks like we could learn alot from you! anywayas, take it easy. subscribing and waiting for an update

This looks pretty good, perhaps a little more pirate and less rogue, but I don't know if I would really know that for sure. I get the feeling that the right arm is a little bowed inwards, kinda feels awkward in a way. Anyway, judging by your past texture work I'm sure this will look great!

More geometry in the fingers would help during animation. The torso looks kinda stif, needs more of an s curve. Interesting set up on the hair.

character - I kind of agree with you about the butt being a bit too high. I've lowered it a little since I posted the above picture though (not too much though). As far as proportions go, he's not perfect (on purpose).... gave him shorter legs, longer arms, and a bigger head to get the feel that I wanted. Not too extreme, but still not to exact human proportions.
BenEoff - I can tell why you're thinking more of a pirate than a rogue. I mean, he does have an eyepatch and a rapier afterall. I guess I just had the image of a DDO rogue in my head while I was conceptualizing this guy. The texture should make it a little more apparent that he's a rogue. Pirates do kick ass though :) About the arm, I kinda see what you mean. It's not too distracting for me, but it's a super easy fix if I remember to do it.
Squirmy - I think his fingers have more then enough segments for some simple animation. Keeping the polycount in mind, I was orginally planning to give him mitten hands. The torso does look kinda stiff. I agree with that. Though when the texture is done you'll notice that he has on some body armor :) As for the hair, thanks. He's going to have short, simple, buzz-cut hair, and that setup allows the hair to be be seen in a few different angles.

Been a bit busy lately, but I finally managed to start texturing this guy today. Here's where I'm going with the face so far. This is obviously very much still WIP...

Looks awesome so far, wish I could do as well, but I did notice one thing.
I think the color is a bit dull. Maybe add in some red, as far as skintones, sunburn, that sorta thing.

Jedianakinsolo - I totally agree. The face isn't done at all. Just wanted to show you guys the direction I was going in (design-wise). I know, it's a bit muddy and dull as far as colors go.

Haven't done anything with the face texture since the last post. I have started with the body texture, and this is what's going on so far. Oh btw the black areas on the rogue's left-arm sleeve are suppose to be transparent.

Definitely WIP. The bases are down, I'm just waiting for the final tones and touches, it's gonna look great.

its kinda funny cause from the wire I pictured his face to be much different - a much darker guy w/ black hair, dark circles under his eyes and maybe some rich blue / green eyes. Looking great though and as said above, just flesh out the tones and get it done.

Gamedev - Well, just saw you're post... you'll be glad to see below that he has darker hair and a green eye. Though I'm thinking about putting some grey in the hair.

Looks good :D The pouches are well done. I think the only thing is that right side there (his left). Being a rogue and all, he'd want to have a decent ammount of tools, and typically, right up front where he can reach them faster. Maybe a pistol should go there? Or binoculars, or more accurate to the theme, monoculars. Just a thought. Might be too late now :P

Jedianakinsolo - well he does have two pouches on his belt for supplies. But I can always add stuff later if I want to. Don't know if I will though, because I already sketched up the next character I'm going to model... and I really want to get to him.
Anyway, quick update... I was getting comments about the face texture looking good but needing some umph... SO, I went ahead and started giving him some character. I think it's going in the right direction now.

Looks really nice. Nice solid mesh and good textures.
What I would say is that your textures could probably do with more fine detail. At the moment the shading is good but concentrates on the basic colours and not so much on the details, which is making them seem less realistic than they could be. Adding some very subtle noise might help, painting fine wrinkles, pores and veins into the face would help, and maybe adding some wear and tear to the armour using a dirt mask would look good.
Overall though I think it's looking great, so good job with it and keep up the good work. :thumbsup:

Looking good, but yeah, I just noticed that it's needing some defining. And those tones :P Some red and stuff. But I think you're sharpening up the eyebrow some, so it's coming.
What's that next guy you want to model? I need to finish mine, but with the computer I'm using, it's like trying to race Nascar with a Moped...

Been diggin this on here and PC. Cool to see it as you go. I also could see where it could use some details, but also right now it feels consistent, so whatever you do I'm sure it will come out great. Keep it up!

That it definately more pirate than rouge.!
It would be neat to see a scar running through his eye and remove the eye patch or even scar the face now with the eyepatch on and give a visual reason for the eyepatch.

Jedianakinsolo - I know a lot of people do him, but this is my free time and I feel like having fun... so I'm modeling a lowpoly wolverine. Not realistic proportions. I understand what you're saying about computers... mine's a piece of crap, that's why I'm another reason why I'm doing lowpoly work right now LOL.

utchamp - Meh, they're both cool. I debated doing a scar but in the end I didn't want to go with one. It was either too distracting, or not cool enough. You can view one of its variations below.
I submitted this to the finished 3dstills area, but I had to set up a cgportfolio and everything so I'm not sure if I submitted it correctly. I know there was a hidden checkbox that I don't think I checked :( Anyway, I got some crits from these already, and I might make some changes, so I guess its not completely finished. But it is REAL close.
I got some crits on him already about lighting and shadow. This is a quick paintover of changes I might do to the texture. I actually like him being clean and not like he rolled around in crap. Oh and I also want to fix up the hair alphas a lil bit.
And this is the face with a scar that some people have been wanting to see. Fixed the hair alpha a bit in this one.

the only crit i can com up with, is i think you could add some more value's to the bodyparts texture espesially his right sleeve. other than that i think it's top notch.

Only Crit I really have is that his protective vest looks too small. It looks like a big man wearing a small vest! :D Maybe a little more variation in the color of brown you have used for the leather. Other than that I think it's Great!

abyss103 - I agree that the values need to be changed. I've recieved a bunch of crits about highlights and shadows and I've actually taken the time to fix that up a bit. You can see those fixes in the link below to the finished images. Btw, thanks for saving me. It's always awesome to here if someone likes my work enough to saves my images.
tofugorilla - Some people like the chestplate and some don't. I obviously do, and that's why it's like that. Glad you like the rest of the character though :)
Ok, after getting many crits, I fixed up the highlights and shadows. I added a few my polies for the hair, and fixed the alphas for them. I think it looks much better and I hope you like it.
