View Full Version : DiTools: Alternative Icons - get them >>>here<<<
Mylenium 09-24-2006, 06:25 PM No offence to Remo or anyone, but the DiTools icons are just ugly. In order to somewhat better the situation (mainly out of selfishness and to not get nausea when using DiTools) I've made my own. To somewhat compensate for being selfish and with gnawing thoughts that some of you may feel the same, I thought I'd share them.
I'm not great at working on such tiny stuff (if it were up top me, I'd work in 4k all the time *lol*), but I tried to carry thru a certain style. The color scheme somewhat is based on C4Ds other icons, but I prefer clearer colors over e.g. the greyish blue Maxon themselves use. To install, just copy the new icons over the old ones.

They have a new clean look to them.
My only crit is i'd like to see them in colour groupings eg
Generators
Modifiers
Expressions
When they or ditools functions are groups like this then it makes far more sense.
EDIT: forgot to say looks like you put a hell of a lot of hard work into them though..good job and great to see them posted.

Feel free to include them in your packaging, just make sure you put in a copyright note somewhere.

I tried to make them "eye pleasing" and there is some logic to that in the way I understand it (I don't care much for how C4D treats/ groups stuff internally. It's the result that counts) - splines are yellow, deformers brown/ ocre, derived data is green. It's not consequently apllied, that's true, but please consider this a WIP. I may get back to refining some of the icons every now and then when I have some minutes to spare. You surely have a point, but that would bring up the problem of getting that painful excessive use of color back as each type would then need to be marked with a different color and solving that conflict in an aesthetically pleasing way is not easy. I believe that more than anything else is the great art in doing good icons.

well i don't think this is anything new i don't think the old ones follow these grouping either really. so you're not so far wrong and the method behind the madness so to speak with splines yellow etc all makes perfect sense. its great to see to be honest the old ones were obviously annoying you for you to take so much time so i think this is why remo requests to use them in latest version.
