How big in mb is 1 minute of 2K Movie?'
let me know...

lets say you are working in a 35 mm full aperture (1,31) format
in 8 bit mode (rgb,tga,tiff,pict->dont mess with jpeg)
one image 2048x1556=9Meg
9Meg X 24fps=216 meg
for one minute =13 giga
in 12 bit mode (cineon or dpx file)
12 megx24=288 meg
for one minute =17 giga
it means you need at least a 50 giga disk to work
if you can work on a crop version
there are other format 1.66 1.85 2.35,anamorphic and you can have the
sound track include so size may vary
hope that help

So, lets say, if i'm working on a motion picture thats about 90 min long I'll be needing a hell of alot of diskspace right?

let do the math
13 gigX 90=1,1 TERA
thats for one layer
you can easily multiply at least by 5
thats a 5 tera (5000 giga) disk.
thats a beautifull baby

And all that for 90 minutes of cinema pleasure ;-)
any idea on the costs of that beautiful baby?

I've handled many shot in this standart (vajont, malena, chiedimi se sono fleice, the circus) with the DOMINO™.... it's unbelievable how TByte you need sometimes.... and if you handle tga filez....

But is it necesery to do the film in a k2 format when its going to be played in a cinema? Or can it be done in other formats?

yes i ve seen some movies made in dv than boost in 35 mm
i even work on one or two
it s a matter of cost and quality. And it has to be the producer 's choice.
but on the screen you will see a video (no definiton, lack of colours)
