View Full Version : Bodypaint UVing vs. Zbrush
V_Shane 09-23-2006, 08:38 PM I was curious if anyone had an opinion of UV application of Bodypaint vs. ZBrush?
I was thinking it might be best to model organics in Z then create a UV with Bodypaint.
Not sure if I'd be able to create a pipline between the two for modelling and painting,
but I'm certianly open to others sugestions and possible issues.

ZBrush's set of UV Tools is geared towards high poly mehses where you have no chance to edit it in any other app. All 'regular' UV projections in ZBrush can be found in any other UV editor. There is at least one (I think the cubic projection) projection 'missing' in ZBrush. ZBrush focuses on the AUV and GUV UV functions (Adaptive and Group UV). So, if you are serious about having a cool UV MAP for your organic low res' mesh then you still need another UV editor like the one in BP or the mega cool one from Headus.
But then.... you only need that if painting the Texture in ZB is not an option for you. At this point I should point out that you can use Photoshop or a PS equivalent App during the texturing proces in ZB. It's all a tad awkward at first but then easy to 3d paint in ZB.
I have not really used anything elase than GUV and AUV's. I'm sooo lazy. But the result is that my texture files are looking like a puzzle made out of little squares as ZB is controlling the distribution in a machine manner. So no way to edit those as humn in PS. But within ZB it's just fine...
Oooppsss rambling..... Gotta go!
Cheers

Lemo, much thanks for the input. I haven't yet tried to use the GUV or AUV's (since my recent training DVD didn't cover it, hopefully the KURV one does).
I'm certainly open to others perspectives. Eager to hear more!
