Im here using a 3 year old dell. I actually upgraded it a bit putting in 3 GB of memory, upgraded the Video card to a ATI x800 xt, new power supply and also dvd drive. ( cpu is like 3.0GHz)

The computer works great with photoshop file. I m just worry about what if I have to use a few programs at once. I am heading to animation school and I havent yet felt the effects of using maya 7 , shade or poser all at one time. Not quiet sure how my old dell will take it since the cpu is like 3.0ghz.

At the moment I am considering a back up plan. Either the new Apple desktop or the dell exps. The only thing that bothers me about the apple is that, running 2 different OS is to me a bit unbelievable and would probably have some draw backs to it. Most of my programs I got so far are for the PC and the only mac programs i got is adobe suite cs2.

Well, to be honest a 3ghz p4 with 3 gigs ram and an x800 gfx card is a perfectly good workstation, id certainly have no problems using such a machine.

There really aren't any big issues with running two operating systems on the mac pro using bootcamp. Several users on this forum are dual booting OSX and windows and are having no problems, as they will hopfully attest to in this thread.

The only real drawback to dual booting is that if you only have one hard drive, you need to split it between the two operating systems. But, if you simply add an additional hard drive to the mac pro, you can have one drive for each OS...nice and clean.

The mac pro is also a better deal than the XPS as far as I know.

If you do go with the mac pro, get any memory upgrades from here: http://www.macsales.com

bro, that pc you have right now is pretty solid. my pc has a 2.2ghz proc, a gig of ram, and i use maya, premier, photoshop, etc. i just upgraded my graphic card to a geforce 6800gs. 3 gigs of ram, a 3ghz proc, and a new vid card. you should be able to run all your programs without any problems.

Thanks guys. I was thinking I was really outdated with my cpu. All these talk about dual core cpu and all just got me thinking about getting a new computer just to be with crowd. Thanks again guys. I feel more confident in my machine even though its a three year old dell haha.
