They can be done on any medium.
If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.

mylest - Thanks :) Out of your two entries, I like the second one best. Looking forward to your update
Brittany - Thanks, as well. It's good to see you posting again, I always enjoy seeing your artwork. Very cool concept for this particular entry. :)
Great work everyone.
My first entry went way over the time limited. Too much time tinkering, experimenting and scratching my head. Anyhow, I decided to do another closer to the given timeframe.

Nice work Daniel, i've been reading some books on anatomy lately, and I think the hands are done really well.
Here's mine, the idea is heavily borrowed from BrittanyRichardson of course, thank you, love your work. :)

It's probably not cool to say this, but I'm really happy with the way it turned out. :)
I think I mainly have the new cgwiki (http://wiki.cgsociety.org/index.php/Photoshop) to thank for that, especially the bit on how to set up your brush really helped me a lot.
I used photoshop, took exactly 55 minutes. C&C very much appreciated.
@SR: Really nice work, but you are not respecting the rules. They clearly state: Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced. I browsed your threads, and I saw here: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=354598&page=10&pp=15 that you painted this much earlier.

Too long time no see here in the DSG...
Nice work everyone! My tip of the day: Try around with the brushes in Photoshop to give your work some texture

rapture - Thanks. Concerning "samurai champloo", no I've never heard of it, but I just looked it up at Wikipedia. I've had another piece that someone compared to another anime show...or perhaps it's the same show (below).

With that said, I do like the Samurai and all things related to the period of feudal Japan :)
Epskampie - Thanks. I really like your entry. The dragon is very cool with the wispy whiskers and scales flipping in the wind. Since the composition is generally a monochromatic purple, it might be interesting to see purple's compliment (yellow) involved somehow. With a yellow, one could create some interesting grays and an extra light source. It may give it some pop. Below is a quick sketch demonstrating what I mean. In any case, great work

Drew,
nice pic.. i recon it'd be worth working on those background trees a little more, as well as refining the hair a little (a bit more of a hard edge?)
cool seeing that traditional style
