Very nice piece of work. Great character design, modelling and animation. It was good fun to watch. Some of the animation sequences did seam to become a little sluggish as was the pace of the main characters walk but otherwise its a very nice animation, i enjoyed it. :D

Very hard to get the movie. I have not see it right now ....i'm

Waiting... zzz...

I'm listen BOB MARLEY.... zzz. 50.25% (!) zzzz... ruhnfh...

Maybe it's big file.... TIME PASSES (like magnetic scroll's adventure games).... 85%

The verdict: sorry the screen saver start and i'm older....

Sorry man, i see now the movie but this is the kind of sequence that if i found in a playstation game .... well i don't know.

I prefer to spend my time to learn english (lol) and to watch a movie like sleepy hollow - hope that encourage you :hmm:

Very nicely done and great character design. The cel shading is nice as well. What was this rendered in?

Very well done. I like how you stylized everything and how you animated everything. Will there be any more of 008 in the future?

Thanks Gary and guys,

I really appreciate your comments.

I used FF-ghost shader and simple glow in XSI for the cell.

I hope there will be more 008 series but maybe not very soon. :D

Sorry for the big file and your time, Elvis75k...;)

Excellent work! The story is pretty amusing, but the funniest thing about this piece is the animation.
Her super exaggerated sneaking near the beginning is awesome! I also particularly like the roundhouse kick.
Cracks me up!

Liked that TS9236

Nice cartoon look and I loved the way she moved. Some of the timing on the characters could be tweaked, but I am nit-picking now. Well done.

Hey ts, nice animation, I'm a huge fan of any 3d stylized to look more 2dish. The only thing that sorta bugged me was how pinched her elbows and knees were. It cause a lot of her poses which were really nice, seem weaker without the mass there.
You should post some of your other stuff up like animation tests and such.

stephen2002
01-31-2003, 07:34 PM
That was funny. Some of the motions were almost too exagerated, but it was good overall.

Now what is she gonna do about all of the little puppys?

vapulus
01-31-2003, 08:14 PM
The only thing i'd critique is the audio. It seems very choppy and doesn't match the overall quality of the animation. You can tell the audio was just clips found online or from an FX library and there wasn't as much planning put into the audio as there could have been.
The animation itself is quite entertaining, though. =) Good work.

OK that's it I'm migrating to Vancouver, Toronto is dead in the water in comparison :p.

Just like unlikelyhero this is some major kick "a$$" work heheh ;)
I really love the animation style you've choosen, the Jessica Rabbit type walk is always stylish, and VERY hard to get right, you did an amazing job here man.

The only thing is the music, needs changing :) also when she goes to look at her watch thingy the first time, her hips rotate a bit to much, but overall very very very well done.

The Vancouver Film School is kicking major booty these days

awesome work [plugged]

You have received the CGtalk choice award (and if unlikelyhero finishes his he'll get one also ;)). Please feel free to display this image anywhere you like! very inspiring work!

upon receiving this award, it guarantees you a spot in the cgtalk gallery hall of fame (http://gallery.cgtalk.com) - which you are now placed

It's good, but not great. I think the walks needs more work. For example, her hips are a little too gyrating. There a couple of small things that bug me. With a little tweaking it will really be great.

Keep up the good work.

*edit*

Oh yes, the backgrounds need more work. Thanks for reminding me King :)

KingMob
02-01-2003, 04:12 PM
hey nice work,

personally I agree with urg that with a little more work this could be something really wonderfull.

I think I have two problems with it.

You characters are wonderfull, very charismatic, but the backgrounds look...poorly rendered (in compaison) sorta baland traditional cg looking stuff. I think if you amp those up to the levl you hit with these stylized characters it would be wonderfull.
Also some places felt a little 'floaty', like when she is looking around her motion seems odd. and some of the running sequences...but I think that could be fixed with...

2. Sounds! (and it think this is most important) is the the sound...to me it just sounds like "SounBank collection Title Here: Misc Sounds vol1" very generic.

they don't flow well, and it's distracting. Watch a cartoon (action or otherwise) and youll notice tons oof little sounds happening, with each step, and motion, you have it on a few things (scisors and such) and its nice, but lets hear some "woosh" when she spins, etc etc...

LOVE the puppies, freakin Adorable
Also love your sense of humor, a little twisted and off beat, which I really dig.

Also the concept stuff at the end is really crisp work.

Be proud of ths for sure, but if you ramp it up a little more, I think the results will be worth it.

P.S. I just read some of the posts ( I was lazy before) and I see the audio has been mentioned , so FYI didn't mean to nag)

Awesome work man!

I love it! I think the walks look fine if that's part of the character's personality. I got the impression that the heroine was oversexed and you were basically poking fun at the Laura Croft type character, in which case, the exaggerated "tight-ass" walk seems appropriate.

I like your sense of humor. Very clever work.

Best of luck to you. I've seen some kick-ass work come out of B.C. lately.

By the way..how long did this take you to complete?

Very cool!!!

The mimic and the expressions of the girl are very humoristic. I like that.

The backgrounds are indeed not the greatest part of the animation. But beacause of the animation and expressions they are not very important. So, good job

I think some of the comments on teh over exaggeration of the poses are pretty valid. But it looks like the style was carried out effectively throughout the piece.

Really good characters, and choice of sounds is pretty good. It would ever work without sound, which is the MOST important thing to remember.

Overall, it's a great demo reel piece. Good Luck in future endavors.

Thanks all

Again, the audio is temporary. ;)

Hey lildragon, thank you for the award. I'll put it on my web site.
Jessica Rabbit was the biggest reference for 008's walk.

I'm sure I need more work for her walk
but I wanted to make her super sexy.
I think it makes a contrast of her 2 sides
(confident agent vs coward runner)
Anyway, I'll keep tweaking. Thanks guys. :)

Alright, I downloaded it. I have about a year until I graduate and if I can make anything on this level I'll be thrilled!

As for C&C, I think the animation could use more tweaking. Overall there seems to be too much overshoot. Like when the "puppy" bangs on the door and 008 swings her head to look...it looks rather extreme and painful. In general it could stand to be snappier, it feels 'floaty' at times.

Some of the camera motion and placement is unrealistic, which adds to the "CG" feel.

The Jessica Rabbit walk is close, but no cigar. I think you're lacking the arc motion of the legs. It's almost like a waddling. A walk like that is hard because if it's not perfect it looks really odd.

Someone commented on the plain enviroment earlier. I think if your focus is on character design/modeling/animation etc. then the enviroment is perfectly appropriate.

I think you just need to spend a bit more time for it to look just right. Best of luck on your job search.

Oh, how long did this take, BTW?

Hey Ted ....

.....this is Rex......Nice job man.....

I like your doggy character...they are so cute. I think you can make the doggy's animation better for the ending....

Well.....as I usually say...." more more more COG movement"

I konw I need more work for my reel and it will be endless.

Good to see some more Vancouverites here on the boards.
You have a good story, the camera angles help guide the story rather than confuse the viewer, and the animation is very stylish. Hope you find time to finish with the critiques made here.
