Characteranim78, I use photoreference for all of them. except the piece of paper. for the larger format ones, such as the boy with the angel wings, I grided my canvas first. That particular drawing is 60x40". I grided so that I would not screw up the proportions, drawing that large. I like to lay down the outline first, and then work in my fine shading slowly. I use a 2b for all outlines, and the ruff shading, and then go in with a 4b and 9b for the darker parts. That is of course on all the pencil drawings. for the white on black drawing, that is chalkboard chalk on black construction paper. You really dig in the chalk till it is solid white, then use Qtips and toothpicks to take it back off. I love that method
