View Full Version : How is Softimage CAT?
Bucket 09-22-2006, 01:44 PM Sorry if this has been asked. But how is it? Anyone try it?
Edit: My bad I guess they just CALL it that but it doesn't have anything to do with xsi at all.

It's a plugin for 3ds Max I think. Does anyone know if this is the CAT, as in the Character Animation Toolkit? I never realised Softimage bought them out...
here is the Announcement...

Being that they are charging $900 for a cat license I take it that it won't be a feature that will available for xsi foundation.. maybe ess or adv.. Just an educated guess.
If I had to guess... what is CAT for Max, will be incorporated to different degrees across the whole XSI application. I'd bet that some aspects will be available in FND, but some of the more "pipeline" related enhancements will be restricted to ESS/ADV.
Time will tell. I can't wait.

I can't wait.
Same here.... I looked at CAT frequently and hoped they come out with an XSI plugin. Then SoftImage bought them and.... silence....... I hope the best and that it's just not simply burried.

You don't necessarily turn upside down a big piece of technology as CAT in the course of few weeks or months. CAT is a whole system in itself, and was developed with a different API (3ds max) than XSI. *IF* the plan for Softimage is to bring some or all of its functionality into XSI, we have to give it some time.

True, specially when you are confronted with your 'limited' audience as all the plugin developers are in respect to XSI.
Thanks for the Link btw!
