View Full Version : Is a new GI videotutorial comming?
Hi there, one of our users sent me his C4D scene - interiour, he had a simple question, how can I get a very nice lighting? I tried it. And this is my result.
Objetcs, camera etc are not mine, I am author of lighting settings only (I changed floor testure, too).
And my question? My settings is quite adaptive, is my settings so good that will I prepare a new videoturial?
And second question, do you have some nice scenes for other examples for me?
Bye Pavel
AMD X2 3800+ 2GB Ram, rendertime 1 h:45 min, PHS post production is really very simple and fast (30 seconds)...

That surely looks great, I would appreciate a video tut pzdm. :)
over at the c4dcafe paulselhi had a nice interior scene a while ago (with a picasso in the background), maybe ask him.

Hi - nice image!
Are you asking for more complicated scenes to test out your GI settings? I have given up on full blown Gi for interiors, they look great/render quick when they are empty rooms with windows in them - but once you fill them up with displays and various other bits It all sloooows down and becomes hard to predict/do test renders.
Just had to do a showroom, 2 days to sort it from scratch so went down the ambient omni in conjunction with some scene ambient occlusion (added a bit of low settings GI to it actually also 20% I think?) - would be interested in testing the scene with your lighting ideas though so please make the vid!

thank you, I will try it!

did you render it at this resolution or much larger? only for this resolution 1h 45m on a dual processing computer is madness, even though it looks nice.
the same quality could be rendered in a fraction of that time
Hi SteveB
"Are you asking for more complicated scenes to test out your GI settings?"
Yes, I am asking for it....

Maybe will be, But I want to try it and I donīt have a time for my own scene :-(

GI setting, it is not so low, but I used GI for "added lighting" only, there are other lights, too of course)...

There are a fine settings of area shadows and blured reflections on floor, too...

GI prepass takes cca 30 minutes...

I was wondering the same.
I just orderd a AMD 64 X2 4600+ system.
But when I see the render time My heart stops beating.
The first thing that I thought. Arggg that is slow. Did I order the right proc.....
Peace,
Rich-Art.

:-), donīt worry, It can be faster... I tried other settings (defined by the same way like first one) without blured floor and lower shadows settings (Sun is set to hard and flat set to 15/150 samples) and time was 1 hour 800x600 and scene was still nice. I know, that time is a bit slower you need, but I want to find a "universal GI interiour system". I use it in few cases and I think, I found it.

I forgot, there is a whole house geometry, including stairs, first floor etc.. It is not my model :-).

Ok nice to hear. LoL...
I saw a test scene. On an AMD 1800+ (my CPU right now) the rendertime was 7.8 minutes.
On the AMD 64 X@ 4600+ it took c4d just 19seconds to render....
So that test did it for me.... :bounce:

Yeah, the render time is actually... long, but... do the tutorial. I am curious how you made it.

I'll chime in with a "yes, please", too. I'm really interested in the way the shadows on the floor rendered out.

If rendering speed is a problem, remember, core 2 quads are on the way.
Hi there
I must say, I inherited computer from my company, it was our server... And I was totally out :-). My PC is not 4600+, but 3800+ :-). Now is time a mutch better :-).. Peace please :-).

And other render test
There is a bit lower Gi settings, Sun has a hard shadow, area shadows have lower shadows settings, there are not reflections on floor. Time 1:03 800x600 AMD X2 3800+ :-)
