View Full Version : 2 quick viewport Q
STRAT 09-21-2006, 10:00 AM 1) look at my parallel view -
http://www.nikclark.com/strat/cgt/crop.jpg
see it clipped? how can i stop this viewport clipping? dead irritating it is.
2) i prefer to model in perspective view. but after several mouse wheel zoom in's and out's on the screen, the zooming function grinds to a halt (whether i use mouse or keyboard). It's almost as if the notional camera the perspective view uses becomes too unstable to run.
i then have to quickly flick over to paralell view then straight back to perspective view to reset the parameters. until the next time (which is usually in 9 or 10 zooms)
this is a buggy pain in the butt, which occures not only on my pc's, but a m8's macs too. so it's a universal prob.
how can this be solved too?
thanks guys.

1) Move the camera rather than zooming.
2) Haven't encountered that, unless you have the camera close in teh z-plane to the selection axis/rotation axis in which case it will slow down. Try using a different rotation method or rotation or dollying back.

1) i dont have a camera. i'm just in parallel view.
2) again, i dont have a camera.

1. As Per Said
2. in case you are using it, don't use the 'zoom' maginifying tool in Perspective mode, as this will change the Focal of the camera, which in turn makes it very slow to zoom /pan back out.
This is the tool that you use when you scroll with the MMB to zoom in and out.
again, don't .
Use the Camera naviagtion tools, which is alt+Rmb and dragging, instead
You are always in some sort of camera, even if not a created scene camera ( then it is a default c4d camera).

Hi Steve, I do not know how you change the clipping but you should use "frame default" to reset your camera, tear the menu off so you can keep using it and use "H" , "O" and "S" as often as you can to zoom the camera to where you want to go. I get this problem as well when repeatedly zooming in and out.

I have noticed that too, this one is really annoying for modelling, I hope maxon can find a way of fixing this.

thanks fellers. looks like i'll just have to change my zooming methods.
In Parallel view the camera plane will be used for clipping the objects. Just move the camera away from the object to keep it from clipping.
This is a feature that can be used to easily create scenes with cut open objects for illustration without having to use Bool or similiar

except that most illustrative sections do not show 'hollow' objects.. It would be nice to have an option to have a 'filled' section

I may be wrong, but 'Moving' the camera can also = 1 + right click drag where 'Zooming' is 2 + left click drag. I'm just getting used to 'Moving' rather than zooming myself.

Hey Strat,
Unfortunately Maxon considers the problem you've come across a "feature." Here's an old thread where I discovered it:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=193480
Were you using the "Frame Scene" command when this happened? One solution is the 1-Right Click combo mentioned by dbond.
Srek, I submitted this as a suggestion (through the Maxon site) a year or two ago, but please humor me as I raise it again. There are occasions when being able to clip a view in Parallel or Perspective is very useful. I use it often for example when I'm rendering a view of a cramped interior. Still, it is much more common when modeling to "Frame" the "Scene" as the command's name suggests. Yet it does not frame the scene, making all of its elements visible. Instead it clips the scene by moving the camera too close. Can we please have an option to "Frame Scene" so that all of the objects in the scene remain visible?
Cinema is a phenomenal app with more features than I could hope for. But this is one basic shortcoming that really gets in the way to day to day work.
