View Full Version : XRef Scene Lights blasted out!

I have a fully lit and textured interior location scene that I am XRefing into another with only characters, one camera and three omni lights for 3-point character lighting.
When I render each separately, they render fine but when I render the scene with the Xrefed location, the scene lighting is way too intense and blasts out the render.

Any thoughts or a silver bullet would be much appreciated... deadline looms.

Sounds like your xref is blowing out the lighting, I have never needed to use xrefs but I suspect this is the fix:
Change the xref scene lights to only include the objects in that scene. Or if that does not work put proxy objects with the same name as the characters in the xref scene and exclude from lights.
Hope that is not a plastic bullet.

turn off all the lights off in the x-ref scenes..or render your characters with a matte background and composite later..........hope it helps

It seems that my character lights are the ones blasting out my xref. Unfortunately we can't exclude an xref from a light (to my knowledge and it doesn't show in the list).
I can work around by merging the xref scene, grouping the xref'd objects and excluding the group from the character lights but it's a pain as I have numerous scenes in the same room and the room is still being worked on by another group. So much fro the magic of Xrefing...

ehm . . . can't you just set your character lights to INCLUDE only your characters . . .:wip:

Yes, you would think it that simple. If I merge my characters into the location scene or visa versa all is fine when I Exclude the location elements from the character lights. The funky thing is when I Xref the location scene into the character scene. I can't exclude Xref elements so the character lights blast out the Xref materials.
The location scene is finished so I have simply merged the files together. Thanks for your reply though.
