Hi everybody,

first of all i would like to say that my english is not very good.

I would like to upgrade from AfterFX to a node based Compositing App. Fusion and Nuke are far out of my budget. Since i will work with 8 bit video DFX+ may be an alternative?
My main question is wich one has the best build-in Keying, Tracking, Rotoscoping and Color Correction Tools? I dont care much about 3d Stuff or Particles because i`m doing all that kind of work in maya. Much more important is the support of IFF Files with ZDepth Channel and the overall performance of the app.

What operating system/hardware are you using and what is the final destination of your images(film, tv, web, etc...)?

Just curious...Why would you want to go to a node based compositor if you aren't interested in it's 3d capabilities. I use After Effects on a daily basis for things from Motion Design to Advanced Lighting composites and it is generally gets used in conjunction with nuke. As far Keying, Tracking, Rotoscoping and Color Correction Tools I would wager that besides Nuke AE has some of the most powerful available. Put keylight to the test against anything and you'll be amazed. I use rpf files all the time in AE and I even import my MAYA cameras into AE.

I only mention this because I think AE is oft overlooked, but in situations where I use a node based compositor I still end up using AE in the finale. Of your selection tho' I would say that IMHO combustion is really just a MAX plugin, Shake with Bijou is a strong combination that I have used a few times, unfortunately Shake has been dropped. On the good side it will be supported for awhile and the prices have plumeted.

Except for Fusion and Nuke node based compositing is very left brained. I can offer you solutions to anythign you want to accomplish (from your post) with AE.
