Nice work!

Have you got any more? What software did you use, or is it traditional?

Cheers

Very nice work!! Photoreal (at least at this resolution) if I hadn't known better.
I'd like to see some 1:1 close-up detail - just a section of it if the whole pic is too big. Please? :)

Nice work, definetely looks real, kind of reminds me of the kings of old statues from LOTR:The fellowship of The Ring.

I have one suggestion though, perhaps you can make them a little more interesting looking as far as a different shape than a rectangle or some engravings in the monoliths.

I like the overall feeling it leaves. Nice painting, its the detail that makes it really nice.

You got an amazing amount of detail going on there, I smell another award :) send me a high res pic, and I'll take a look at it. tito@cgnetworks.com But I'm very positive you will get the award. When you do you can link from the award page ;)

I think you're more of a loser when you go on boards, spell loser "looser", make fun of people for good artwork, and say nothing constructive. "coolmanmatt", grow up.

Aldalorn, very cool looking image, I'm going to withhold my personal comments till we see a higher res image. Please post one! Looks cool so far though!

Great looking image but the shadow that cut's across the middle ground confuses me. What is casting this shadow? It can't be the slab and cliff combo as they are too far back.

I suppose there must be something in front of the slab we can't see but the shadow does throw the rest of the image out IMHO.

In my attatchment I've put a blue dashed line to show where I'd have thought the shadow from the slab and cliff would be.

Like I've said though - Great image nonetheless

imagination guys :D, first thing i was thinking that could cast that shadow would be cloud, maybe enough big to cover the sun, or i don't know. But it could be? ....so there is no any wrong in that image, in this resolution it looks perfect.

Yes I don't know what's behind the pillar. Neither would a movie audience and thats what matte paintings are for aren't they?

An Art Director on a movie would say "We'll need a new direction to realise the matte painting from because this angle doesn't give us enough visual information about what's behind the pillar"

Maybe if this was used in a movie there would be an accompanying matte painting showing the view from the opposite pillar? Then the audience would see what was casting the shadow.

maybe this matte painting his on is way .......hmmmm
maybe the shadow was some kind of a teaser....

and the world is waiting with one question in their mind " what 's behind the pillar?"

Again some fantastic work from Aldalorn !
Perhaps the shadow comes from a huge flying saucer, flying above the image :applause: :applause:

Good work !

ok maybe im a little bit out of frame here, can some one explain to me what is matte painting????:surprised

Essentially, they are background plates to put the action in front of.

So if you're filming a scene, you might just make sets for the parts where the actors will actually be, and fill the stuff that's farther away (including the sky and such) with what are called matte paintings.

Then you comp the footage of the actors onto the matte.

I know that's oversimplifying a bit, but I hope it answers your question!

Matte paintings are traditionally the hand painted backgrops used on sets but with the digital age they are now often digital as well, hence, we see lots of awesome digital paintings here. According to Cinefex, some of the matte paintings used Minority Report were between 12,000 and 16,000 pixels wide. Amazing stuff! An interview with one of the painters said that the mattes were so large that they hand to break them up into pieces in order to work on them because their computers could barely handle the whole thing. LOL! Very aewsome stuff.

Hello all and thx for all c&c!!

I can't post any message before today, so sorry !
For the shadow on the left, i can say that i place it in this situation to have a good composition. We can imagine that behind the first monolith, there is an other bigger structure. In this matte, the most important is the composition and not the realist of the sun rays :D

I'll send a bigger version of this matte to the moderator, so i hope that he will post it to this subject !

Thx again for c&c ! Enjoy!
