Title: In a Beautiful Place
Name: Jordan Peters
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

Jordan Peters, USA
Photoshop CS2.

I don't often do landscapes, so I wanted to do one for experience. I wanted to go for more of a misty morning atmosphere, with landscape features you'd find in places like rural Ireland. This started out really frustrating, but it was a lot of fun in the middle and towards the end because I finally figured out the right color scheme and textures.

The inspiration for this was fueled by heavy binges of Boards of Canada's "In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country" EP and Ninja Tune's "Art of Zen Relaxation" compilation (two albums I have not been able to put down for years). I put a lot of time into this, so please look carefully (there are some details that you'll miss if you just briefly scan it). I hope to do more landscapes soon because I find myself continually fascinated by them.

Comments and Criticism would be much appreciated.

Very nice work! You definitely achieved the 'misty looks' you were aiming for. Again, nicely done!

You have talent, I give you that.

Compostitionally- the picture looks unbalanced to me. I'm really bad at explaining this but I will try; It looks heavier on the right side of the picture than it does left. I'm not sure, maybe a different angle would have been better. Or perhaps trim the picture on the left side. Or you can make adjustments to the mountain in the background so it balances it the picture.

I'm just throwing out ideas....Do what you like.

Hey, thanks for the comment. I know what you mean about the offbalance of the composition. I would've added more stuff to the left side, but I wanted to lead people into looking at the cottage without much distraction I guess. The cottage was also originally in the center, but I thought that looked bad (placing the main thing you want to show in the center is a bad idea composition-wise). Perhaps I could add a close-up of some vegetation towards the left to balance it out a little.

Do you have any suggestions? I think adding to the mountain would take away from how far away it's supposed to be.
