View Full Version : 2d Environment: Photo comp matte
Grayson 01-30-2003, 03:01 PM This is my first serious photo comp project for my matte class. I shot all the plates myself; and the whole project was done in about 4 days.

Fantastic Job!
I enjoy seeing upper classman from my college posting work here :)
I'm just a sophmore @ scad so I won't be posting much for a while.
The mood and lighting is very nice.
But somehow the sizes don't really match. Those waves look like they are about 1 meter high, at least. Now this makes the house look really big. Use more small waves, or don't blend too fast into the deep water.
Your horizon is too low. If you follow the horizontal lines of your house (right side), they should cross on the horizon.
And the little house at the left you should rotate, it hangs to the left, thus having just another perspective.
But I really like your colors. They blend together really nicely.

light matches, perspective matchers, resolution matches. awsome job.
how do you get the image of the sky? it is super big and wide angle.

that is just really really cool! But... ya, theres a but..... the Brick structure closest to the viewer.... is nagging me... It seems out of sync with everything else... like it's perspective is off... or something. I'm no pro so I cant say for sure. But again, Very Cool!!

really nice mood in that pictures...
i think maybe you should desature the red of the building in the middle a bit.. the color seems a tad too strong.
one thing i dont like is the road/wall on the far far left... its hard to make out what exactly it is which is a bit confusing.
and, like someone pointed out, the left building (those arches?) seems to be at a weird angle
all in all though i think those flaws also kind of make the image interesting.. the eye wanders around a lot and its a kind of "somethings wrong but i can´t put my finger on it". which is fun. :)
awesome!!!
really got my attention
great job man
wowser thats awesome
where do u get ya photos??

nice work
but
the perpective lines are wrong
the building with arches must be in the same perspective than the red
building
or the ground must be less flat to suggest the difference of "verticality
maybe the focal you use to photograph the building was too wide
check your horizon line
and i think you can add "diamonds" on the ocean

Thanks for the crits everyone. Looking back on it; the project was a little rushed; and combined with my total lack of experience with this topic I made tons of mistakes. Perspective issues and scale problems; like you guys pointed out.
But I learned tons; so in another couple weeks I'll post my next project, and hopefully I won’t make the same mistakes twice. We have to switch a day shot to a night scene. I'm excited about it and I've already got most of the composition worked out in some thumbnail sketches.
Tchook: Diamonds? You mean like how the sun sparkles on the surface of the water?
(c): I took all the pictures my self with my girlfriend’s digital camera.
Projectkmo: Yea; it's pretty off I had to do some major tweaking to get it to try to match the perspective of the landscape. And in the process I mangled it a bit; I tried to cover up some of the worst parts with grass, like the front steps.
