i think that this is more a question of where to put my object. Try placing it in the upper left corner and rotate it a while. I think that will do the trick, just keep messin with ur rotation axis

;) move object, add texture

he might have also used photoshop to adjust the final image

----------------------

it's important here to experiement with the settings

i think, this is the answer to your question already. as it looks like, the final picture isn't based on the screenshots on the page.
play with the matrix-extrude for a while in order to get good results. or you can dublicate your objects and rotate it to get new forms

erstmal danke für ne deutsche antwort...

now, but if i dublicate the object it doesn't get so bold like the one in the sample. i don't know what i should do, i've asked the wirter of the tutorial, but he don't know it anymore.

I have found an easier way and a more effective method than matrix extrude.

Make a sphere >
Make it editable >
STRUCTURE > EDIT SURFACE > CRUMPLE
Crumple: MODE: RADIAL X Radius=100m

Then select the polygon tool and inner extrude the whole sphere to your liking, position, texture then render.

Here my result with no mats.

Hope i made that as painless as possible =)
