View Full Version : Welcome book text messed up
Improv 09-19-2006, 07:01 AM Recently when I open Painter 9.5, the text in the welcome book is messed up. It looks like there is other text overlayed on top. I tried going back to the default layout, but that doesn't make a difference. All windows xp fonts are at standard size for Windows Classic style.
This also happens accessing the welcome book from the help menu.
Any ideas how to correct this? It's a small thing, but it's irritating.
Thanks.

How to correct this...I'm not sure...you may have to reinstall.
If you don't need the Welcome Book, just un-click Show this dialog at startup (last tab).

Thanks, Cris-that's my last resort. I don't really need it, but it's one of those things that you become obsessed about fixing, just because! :-)

This is really getting weird-I did a full reinstall of Painter IX.5, but the problem remains.

Hi Improv,
You might want to post this problem in the Corel Painter IX newsgroup. I've seen similar questions posted there and, if I'm not mistaken, solutions found.
Post with "Imaging Dev" included in the subject line and that might get the attention of one of the Corel Painter developers, faster.
Good luck, and see you there! :)

Mind reader! ;-)
That was my next step. I wanted to try one Painter forum at a time and not spew the problem everywhere.

Great idea-cya! :-)

Hi Improv,
Just saw your post on the Painter IX newsgroup. ;)
Yep, it sometimes helps to call for help directly to the development team.
If you don't get a response on the newsgroup, you can also send your message via e-mail directly to the Corel Painter development team at:
painterteam@corel.com
Good luck!

Have you tried to reset your workspace?
Although this will wipe out any customizations you have made to Painter, it likely will fix this problem.
Prior to resetting the workspace be sure to save any custom palettes, brushes etc that you wish to retain.
Hope this helps.
cheers
steve

Steve just gave you an answer and he's from the Painter Team at Corel so you got it from the best. ;)

Improv...
Next thing to try is to go to your user settings.. [C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\Corel\Painter IX] and delete the HTML folder (whole kit and kaboodle) then restart Painter.. this will force a rebuild of the Welcome Screen from the original in the Programs folder...
I hope this works...
Did you do anything to change these files in either location?
Good luck...
steve
BTW... JIN... thank you for the kind words :)

UPDATE:
UPDATE: I found out what the problem was. When Image Dev mentioned on the corel painter ix forums about the HTML folder, I got to wondering if maybe the Welcome book took it's settings from my default web browser settings. I went into Firefox and saw that I had the default fonts set to a size 14. This is obviously larger than normal and was done since I wear glasses.
I changed the browser fonts back to size 12 and rebooted. Stat Painter and all is well.
Thanks for your help everyone. :-)

Lol, I was going to suggest that when I first read this thread, but then though about it and figured that browser settings shouldn;t have any effect on Painter. Guess I was wrong, haha.
Glad you figured it out.
