View Full Version : Setup Machine for Maya - Is it worth it?

Recently discovered this little helping hand. Was wondering if anyone had experience with this or similiar plugin? More correctly, if such a plugin is more hassel than help, or just plain hype.
Thanks,

ehh, if you dont wanna deal with rigging then get it, you can get the student version for cheaper. i know a lot of animators just wanna animate and not deal with set-up, but i think that when you learn rigging and you rig your own characters (simple stuff nothing elaborate) it makes you understand your character much more, his limits and what kind of movements he will be able to make. if you wanna try an automatic setup i recommend Mark Behms AutoRig, this script is awesome(www.markbehm.com). you can get the Setup Machine as a demo version.
but i recommend you learn rigging , just basics

yea..as was said before, if you want to be an animator, then by using something like the set up machine, your just really cheating yourself. It's good for if you don't have time, and you need it done by tommorow, then by all means it's great.
If your learning animation though, your just cheating yourself, not that it's wrong, but it's kinda of like reading a story and skipping chapters,,,you get the jist of it, but you don't really understand it.
Having said that though, if your a profesional on a tight deadline, then go for it, it is pretty good rig, not the greatest, but it will get the job done .

Thanks for the info. Heh heh, I knew I was going to get smacked around abit for asking that. :D I know the process fairly well, but I'm more interested in being a modeler. I just want something to toss in so I can pose my models and show that they can deform correctly.
Thanks again.
