View Full Version : Sketchbook Thread of Iridyse
Iridyse 09-17-2006, 04:06 PM Hi:) I figured I should have an anatomy/sketchbook thread here. I'm really rusty, and the practice will do me good :D
Here's my first, for the supercool Anatomy Lesson Series (the torso). Since the focus was on the torso, the limbs are not very nice:P

I also have this membership for http://www.human-anatomy-for-artist.com (given to me by the wonderful Marek) so I hope to have some sketches from there before my membership dies, haha. Oh and some animal anatomy sketches from all my wonderful books. Whee, I'm all excited now! :D

Iridyse,
Fantastic to see your thread go up! Welcome. :) I really look forward to seeing you dazzle us with your paintings. :)
I would invite you to create a painting tutorial for the forum any time that you feel so inclined.
Please feel free to post here work you have done from previous OFDWs. Looking forward to seeing much more of your work!
Cheers,
-Rebeccak
I'd love to see a painting tutorial from you. Saw your first torso now and your other work earlier today. Awesome I must say. I like the style.
Great colors on this one. Looking forward to more. Maybe even some pencil sketches, m? :)

Rebeccak: Thank you so much for the warm welcome! :) I'd love to make a tutorial, just let me figure out how to write it out without adding extra nonsense :D
razz: Thank you! Pencil sketches would be great :D I lost my full Imperial board though(don't ask me how, it seems to have just disappeared), so it will be a little awkward to draw on smaller pages. But I'm definitely looking forward to doing some pencil sketches too :)

Something a bit older, from July 2006 I think.
I've been meaning to do a tutorial/walkthrough of this image, here are the images for now :)
Ah, I love Bouguereau <3 A copy of the most gorgeous portrait EVER.

No overpaint/colour picking/tracing etc etc done. I think it is pretty evident from the steps, but I thought I'd clarify since I was asked that once :) I think the best colour effects come from layering (glazing/scumbling). The images are pretty big, my apologies for that. But I think it was better this way since it is clearer what has been done in each step :)
The steps:

Really nice work on the torso drawings - and the walkthrough is amazing, keep it up!
The colors are great from the very beggining. And it starts to look very good in the first steps. What can I say, you know what you're doing. I like the way you've got the texture there. With sort of a camelhair brush. Amazing work, the least I can say. One of the best master studies I've ever seen.

enialadam: Thank you so much! :)
mynti: Many thanks :)
razz: Thanks! I'm rather pleased with the textures. I learnt a lot while painting this:) I have a link to my brushes in my earlier post if you would like to try them out :)

Iridyse,
You definitely have to post a separate Tutorial thread for that gorgeous Bouguereau copy!
It would be great if you created a Tutorial here:
Tutorials and Workshops (http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=199)
and called it TUTORIAL - What it's about - by Iridyse
-And definitely please post your images inline so that we can see them - such gorgeous work shouldn't be hidden! :)
Amazing stuff - looking forward to seeing sparks fly from this thread! :)
Cheers,
-Rebeccak
damn you nowI have to find some really strong tape to fix my jaw back to my head :p :D

mazalo: Thank you! I love your work :)
Rebeccak: I will, I will! I'm just feeling lazy to edit/type.The images are pretty big dimension wise, so I didn't inline them :D Thank you so much for the encouragement!
NR43: Hehe, thank you so much!
anandpg: Thank you! I studied at Sir J.J.School of Arts, Mumbai. I graduated in May 2006:)
Intervain: Thank you so much! Bouguereau rocks! I'm considering doing another copy, of La Vague! :D
Thomasphoenix: Ah, how wonderful! I'm really glad that someone's using it! :D
DigitalSol: Hello stranger! Where are your works? :P
I've been feeling rather guilty about not doing more torsos (damn I'm slow), so here's another quickie. I think I really like doing copies. It really lets me focus on the colours and texture (and experiment with brushes) without giving me a headache. Whee! A friend (the one who has been sweet enough to host the brushes and images) thinks I have it in me to be a professional forger, hahaha. But, it would be SO cool to do a master copy in one of the museums methinks, with a laptop and all ;)

Wow, that bougereau copy is amazing... just.. wow.. All of your pieces are, you have that wonderful sense of light and colour and mass, just makes the things pop out of their colour they sit against. Enviable and very, very inspiring.

Hi Shreya!
I don't remember to say this before to you, so I can say now: You are an incredible painter!
I've seen your works on your CGPortfolio, but these sketches really made my eyes fall from my face. I love all of them, and mainly the portrait of the girl, with the steps.
I just wanted to say "Congratulations" for you. Cheers!

I wish you'd post more work here :D
Yes, Iridyse, I've seen you working on some pieces in the wip thread. Why not post it here? I'm sure everyone who doesn't visit there would love to see your pieces. And, aah, Bouguereau...one of my favorites.
No crits at all, just

NR43: Thank you very much! :) I should be painting a lot more!
razz: Thanks!! I hope you like the (almost) final version :D
alexbaer: Thank you! And ok, you asked for it..mwahah.
Rebeccak: Thank you so much! I don't really know what to write a tutorial on , and I don't feel like I know enough to write something (if that makes sense). I'd love to do one though!
I'm tired of this image for now, so more work on the arms, calf and hair laterlater. I also have a larger version uploaded, to show how nice broken highlights can be :)
