Hey everybody,
Sorry to have dropped off the map lately, life's highway has kept me busy and is about to take another sharp turn very soon.

I've mostly been doing some graphics in Illustrator preparing myself for a fulltime job but this piece was done in Dec. It's a photoshop D&D magazine pic. Overall I think it solved the problem but there are things I would want to do better if I were to try it again.

I hope to be back here more frequently after I get settled in at the new gig. (I miss doing the speed paintings)

It's great to see many new names as well as the "usual suspects" still hanging around this place.

Sleepless, I've missed you! I was just wondering what happened to you and now you post and run. :annoyed:

I hope life is treating you well and you have time to return to CGTalk and the challenges. I don't have to say it ... but I will anyway.

"I love this picture!" Exceptional colors and the usual Sleepless style. This one almost looks like a wood cut out though. Very cool how you did that.

Great piece:love: I love the concept and the technique is excellent, as usual. Nice to see you back....would be cool if you could whip something up for the challenge, if you had time.

megra- Thx man, Photoshop 7 standard textured brushes, set to about 50% opacity. Also found some good brushes on the Adobe site.
Kirt- hey mod thanks! I do my typical time consuming monochromatic underpainting, adjust the color and paint the color on top. 1 or 2 layers only.
jeroentje- It's a full page inside piece should be printed by now. I apologize for the elf woman's hands, ( they are the weakest part of this IMO). Illustrator- Not at your level that's for sure. I'll post something I did.
wildsheepchase - Challenge Hummm, yes I want to get back into those asap but I'm going to be super busy for a awhile. The challenges here brought about my swith to digital techniques, I'll be forever indebted.
PsychedelicMind- Thanks, I have missed this place.

The fluffy snowman strikes back! Glad to see you again. I love this picture, you´ve given a gothic cathedral window or a carved wood altarpiece feel to it.

i love the inlaid feel to it, it's so intricate. great work :) htough it takes a moment to get used to it as it's pretty bright and colourful compared to the other works of yours that i've seen, but once you get over that looking at all the detail is amazing.

good to see you back sleepless. fantastic painting, the colours are great, they help the definition alot. it's pretty easy to loose forms to all that detail in something like this.

i too have been neglecting the 2d forums lately :shame:
hopefully i'll find time to make a comeback soon!

Sleepless, that's amazing as always. The background could have been a little bit darker to emphasize the foreground more, but that's nothing to rant about.

Missed you, too. You want to marry me?

Seeing all this great 2D makes me sad.

I want good 2D....but I'll settle for a mandarin orange....and a glass of cold water.

A great piece of manual work.

Looking at it I see it has a mathematical beauty to it, a fractal quality in the richness of detail and I keep wonder how it could be made in some programmatic way. I would love to be able to this kind of thing in 3D and compositing tricks, scripts and such.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Hey Sleepless,

That's a great painting you've got there, the style is VERY inspiring! My favourite character is the knight, the pose is really fitting and he has lots of personality! I want more :)

Er.... what do I say... Nice o.o
Wish I had been the first to comment it though... Gotta hate when all the comments are taken -Grumbles...-

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments. I amazed that the pic was so well received. A CGtalk medal, I will display it proudly.
Answers: It was traditionally drawn first in non-photo blue pencil, scanned and then painted in Photoshop. It was too complicated an image for me to do without a working drawing; If it's not out yet it will be soon in Dragon magazine.

That's so cool, it's hard to think that you made it with 1 or 2 layers.:applause:

I like your style definitely, I try to draw a work like this too. But you see, my problem is the hand drawing. It's also where i wanna improve myself.:scream:

By any way, it's a well done for you, keep running, I will stand in you everywhere!!

That's really cool! It reminds me of this game I used to have. I think it was called something like Rage of Mages.

Totally nice work!
