View Full Version : Gods/Demons - Character - marc
Marc Andreoli 03-18-2002, 10:58 AM Ok, I think I am going to try to do something for this month's challenge, even if I am not allowed to use textures.
Let's start with a rough wacom sketch...
http://home.earthlink.net/~andreoli73/stills/cheesy01.jpg
Ever wondered where your piece of bread went when you lost it in the fondue pot ?
This is a 'Gruyere', otherwise known as a cheese demon. He usually starts to materialize in form of strings when you poke the melted cheese with your fork - do it long enough and he will reach out, grab your fork and poke you in the eye...
You have been warned ;)

p.s: yes, I am from Switzerland originally :)

LOL! Very funny! This will look so cool with all those threads of cheese hanging from his body all over! :D
I think next month will be your month; it's going to be a texture and lighting challenge.
Ok i like.
I'll keep eye on you

hahahahaha.... :D :D :D
love your sketches...
he is the demon who comes to give you a pledge (not sure - 'un gage' in french - hope you speak french a little) for the fourth time that you let your bread fall in the cheese... :) :D :)
(if you don't know what are the three first pledges, you have to read : Asterix chez les Helvetes (Asterix and the Helvetes))

:)
whow, I have not checked my thread for a while, thanks for all your encouragement !!!
As you might have guessed, I have been kind of busy lately. I spent a week at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose, moved down to southern California where I still need to get settled. I have not even set up my computer yet.
However, I started modeling (before my move) and plan on posting an update soon. Stay tuned, and thanks for coming back :)

Forget the 'Utah teapot', here comes the 'Swiss fondue pot' ;)
http://home.earthlink.net/~andreoli73/stills/cheesy02.jpg
hope this works, I think I spent more time figuring out how to get connected to the net and upload the file than actually modeling...:annoyed:
This is just the basic character, I still need to add the strings and other details and put him into a contemplating pose...

P.S: glad to see all the cheese lovers in the forum...

We should start a thread about alps' food ;)
Anyway your monster really looks like your concept drawing. I'm impatient to see more !

to cheese or not to cheese, what was the question ?:)
Here is an update with some bubbles and strings...still need to tweak it a little, add some more strings and cheese on the side of the pot. I also need to model the fork and burner thingy.
http://home.earthlink.net/~andreoli73/stills/cheesy03.jpg
As for the internet connection, it involves transferring the files from pc to mac (laptop), connect to the phone line accross the room and upload via dial-up. One day, this will be an olympic discipline... ;)
Arvi pa ?

hmm looks delicious
I just had fondu yesterday
you should make his face look like it's melting
I think it's looking too solid for melted cheese
Marc Andreoli

more strings attached...
http://home.earthlink.net/~andreoli73/stills/cheesy04.jpg
psumo: I do not want to deform his head and hands too much, but you have got a good point. Hope it is better now with the extra strings and little 'blobs'.
Anybody have an idea on how to rig this model ?
just kidding, don't expect an animation anytime soon, motion capture would be too messy :D

And make one little white wine bottle lolll
very god idea this demon:wip:
keep cheesing loll:beer:
Hi Marc !
I see that you've worked hard. Nice.
Concerning the Alps food I totally agree. Same for french food and bread and simple things that come from our grandmothers... All those things that US people ignore most of the time.
Arvi pa means "good bye" in the old language where i live (Annecy in Haute-Savoie).
As for your model : I think that would be great to make his teeth with cheese string instead of real teeth. And maybe add some big bubbles on his stomach.
I love it :) Keep going man !

http://home.earthlink.net/~andreoli73/stills/cheesy06.jpg
running out of time, as always
Thanks for all your positive comments ! Unfortunately, I did not get to model any bread, wine bottles/glasses or other mandatory fondue accessories, but it would have been difficult with the 'no texture' rule anyway.
Adrien: send me some cheese and wine by email, it will be faster and cheaper
;)
-OZ-: hehe...blush. You know how to talk to a graphic artist :D
Lorenzo: is that a 3D 'Pingu' you are using as an avatar ? You are right regarding the emmental, check out my recipe
Toma: Thanks again for the support and language teachings. I hope I'll be able to incorporate more of your input next time...
Arvi pa !
