I need just a bit of advice.

Im working on a small video, This video contains graphics created in Photoshop. No actual footage.

I have been working in a screen res of 720x480 square pixel. Everything is fine. On my computer monitor that is.....

I burned a test render to DVD to see how it looks on the TV. Not good. The graphic are cut off on the left and right. It appears as though the TV is displaying 640x480 or a bit smaller. It is a standard U.S TV.

I need to make sure this video fits a tv screen as well as a 21 inch monitor. Should I redo the whole thing at 720x540 (square pixel)? I was told it'll be played via a DVD player on a 21 inch computer monitor, but there is no guarantee as I won't be there.

Im under the gun on this, so any recommendation would seriously help?

What would be the recommended target size for such a project?

Thanks in advance for any help.

when you're working in after effects, if your comp is set to D1 or something that's not square pixels, then what you see is what you should get. and try using the safe frame borders (acton safe, title safe)

standard us tv should be displaying exactly what you're working at. when you render, also make sure the settings in all your render options are exactly what you want them to be.

honestly though, this sounds like a comp size/pixel size issue. maybe double check that all your footage is being interpreted right in the project bin, too, just to be safe (although if you're only using photoshop files, this shouldn't be an issue).

hope something here helps!

I'm thinking this is an NTSC thing. US TVs work to NTSC rez, which is indeed 640 x 480. As opposed to PAL (720 x 576) which the rest of the world uses.
I could be wrong, having never had to deliver a shot to US standards. But I'm thinking that's your problem. Work in an NTSC comp, not a PAL one.

thread starter dude. Please make sure your OUTPUT comp is D1 NTSC (0.9). use that to output it. Its as simple as 1 2 3...

Square was never meant to change it to 4:3 (do the math) square will be on be pretty good for smallish comp like VCD (mpeg 1 thingy).

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys...

Im just going to wing it, I cant afford to recreate a lot of the comps. I was told it'll be played on a 21 inch monitor, so I will work with that. What I have been doing all along works great on my 21 inch. YV = cut off sides.

I've tried several things, all work out great, expect when i play it on the TV, Im thinking my TV is screwed up when displaying stuff. If I pull this off, I'll buy a new one with the cash.

the fact that you said that your picture is cropped in TV sounds like you did not observe the safe frame?

If it is going to be played using a computer and on a computer monitor, it shouldn't be any problem though.
