View Full Version : Exporting from Maya4 to 3dsmax
Freddo 01-29-2003, 10:12 PM I'm working on a school project with a friend of mine, he's using 3dsmax and I'm using Maya. I've done some UV-mapping/texturing on a model and he's done the rigging in 3dsmax. Now I wonder if I can export the model and texturing info (UV's etc) so he can import it and animate it.
Help is much appreciated

Export your models in the .OBJ format. You can find and download a freebie OBJ import plugin for max. They'll keep mapping coordinates, but you'll probably have to rebuild the textures in max.
If you have a machine with both max and maya installed, you can use Kaydara's filmbox (FBX) plugin. It should retain quite a bit as well, and basic texture support.
I think no matter what, you're gonna have to do some fixing up/rebuilding textures no matter what method you use. I have yet to know of a one shot bang method for perfect export/import from one app to another.
