Hey all,
I've been trying to make my portfolio a bit more focused, and could use the feedback.

aside from my Demo Reel (http://www.valleydweller.com/resume/resume.html) which is a whole other thread itself, i'm trying to add specific examples of stuff i've done from those clips.

http://www.valleydweller.com/resume/evolution/guardrunstill.jpg

this is just a frame from a run cycle on this guard.
Did him for a prototype a couple years ago, and he's one
of like 4 examples that i might put up soon if i can get all the assets in line.

the point of this post, however is to crit the following page:
Evolution of a Game Character (http://www.valleydweller.com/resume/evolution/evolution.html)

Fire away on all aspects of it if you wish. I welcome feedback on presentation, art, modeling, animation, etc.

thanks,
jerO

Sorry this should be in the demo reel topic, but forgive me:
First off, your work is very impressive, and you have been a pro for a while. But, I am kinda suprised by your reel. It seems to lack focus, and is kinda hard to determine what you are trying to get hired for. I think it may be just a matter of cutting it shorter, and the easiest way to do that would be to choose the most entertaining as well as visually impressive shots and put those together. If, as in your resume, you want to get hired as a character animator, then show more of that you've done, and less of the effects. Those as well as the world building should be the "Gravy" on the Animation section, and should not overshadow that. Also there is no concept work shown, you may want to remidy that too. If i was veiwing this I would rather hear you tell what you did on the scenes, not read it. People get lazy, you know how it goes. You have some great work, good luck man!

Hey, no worries. No forgiveness needed :)
there isn't a demo reel topic yet, so here's fine.

You are spot-on with your comments, sir. i threw that thing together in a couple days, and apparently it shows.

It's the second reel i've done (the first is below it
on that page) and as usual, i was completely unprepared when the axe fell on the 8 of us.
I spent a whole week just digging up assets and rendering out content to build with. (during which time, the programmers that got cut were already interviewing... yay. hehe)

I've been so busy with contract work trying to make ends meet that i haven't had time to re-adress my reel, which is why i was trying to supplement it with these "evolution" pages.

thanks a lot for the reply, i'm gonna re-read it again in a bit to make sure i didn't miss anything.

i went ahead and started a new thread with my demo reel remix. it's much shorter than the old one, and much more focused.

check it here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43514)
