View Full Version : duplicating Keyframed charcters in maya?
speedy_fx 01-29-2003, 08:33 PM Does anyone know how to duplicate a key framed characater, using maya.
I tried copy and pasting keys but the duplicated character would snap back to the original character everytime i played it back.

why not use the right forum for this question ... the Maya forum and not the general discussion board

Never mind, you are new and something like that happens quite often. Anyways, your thread will be moved to the Maya forum as soon as a moderator sees it, so don't get confused.

hmm, never tried this myself, but doesn't this problem occur from identical transformation coordinates? i guess, one's got to set an offset to the original curves to achieve separate movement!
maybe i'm wrong. :wip:
lowkey,
why not move a parent node of the skeletons root instead of editing the animation curves?
goob.

hi,
if your setup is well done, you have to have a global control object used to positionne your character in your scene, and used too to scale your character, so you can then copy keys from limb to limb, but with the possibility to move your character everywhere in your scene.
i hope i replied well to your question, and excuse me for my poor english :)

why not move a parent node of the skeletons root[...]?
well, i simply got no experience with character animation yet! therefore, i don't know anything about it.
just a general thought:
wouldn't the parent force it's children to follow? i thought speedy_fx wanted to copy his character and make the replica move in individual patterns!
