View Full Version : sticky request : shading networks ?
Chappo 01-29-2003, 07:50 PM Don't know if there should be sticky on shader networks, but as Maya's power lays in the connection of nodes and stuff... and shading networks is one of those powerful features that maya provides , maybe it would be interesting to see shading networks from users ??
I don't recall anymore where i got the little network below but it's a little sample so you'd see what i mean :)

Great idea i hope people take this up !!
That's a great idea!
Also, a collection of tutorials would be nice too! Pixho's site has heaps of handy tips for shader networks for maya, for instance http://www.3dluvr.com/pixho/

Yes... but the idea of my sticky was to also include pictures of the network and the final result with it to get a quick overview.
I've noticed that good-shader-connections can make your model look awesome instead of dull.
And it can get you out of the 'usual 3d look' quickly.
So Admins.... would this be a good idea ?
Having a section with links where great shaders can be found and then users having posting their own creation of shader-connections ? :)

The Maya forum has the coolest stickies, and this would be a nice addition. I feel like I'm spamming since I don't have a shader network to share off-hand, but I just thought this was a cool idea so I had to speak up. :)

Yup
like i said before......shader connections can get you million dollar results for your scene.
AND it's easily looked over because the power of it is underestimated
like the shader i posted on top..... try it, you will have a cool effect instantly :)

Yeah, having a shader sticky would be a very useful thing indeed; God knows how much time I waste on a model trying to figure out what node to feed into which attribute.
And chappo: that network (the fresnel simulator) is one of the most useful out there. Everything from velvet shaders to skin and car reflections is based off of that.
I have a few I'd like to share, so Mods, let's sticky this thread, please.

Share them to make the request more appealing to the mods. :) It won't seem useful if all we do is say 'hey, sticky this'. ;) Yeah I guess I'm a hypocrite for not posting any shader networks either as I don't have anything worth sharing right now... but you should get the ball rolling. :bounce:

a sticky thread of nothing but Hypershading networks and their pictures would be freaking awesome. its one thing to talk about networks, but it's soooo much better to see them with out d/ling them.
