[this is a... OLD and OUTDATED THREAD! :)]

original post:

Hiyas!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DISCLAIMER:

The Head was modeled in MAYA, but almost everything else is from POSER. (Wait!! Don't run away yet!!)

This pic is presented for aesthetic/ ART purposes only, not for technical display, so please don't chase me with pitchforks for using Poser :p (!!!) So, no Poser Flames plz!!!

-The Head was modeled by me in Maya from scratch.

- the BODY, HAIR, CLOTHES, POSE and BODY SKIN TEXTURE are DIRECTLY from Poser and _NOT_ modeled by me. Only a few edits have been made.

- The Head texture is an edited temporary texture from a photo (where everything but the lips and eyebrows are erased).
Just using a quick Planer Projection.

- The Eye Texture is just a TEMPORARY texture from a picture of Final Fantasy's Aki eye. Usually I'd use a photo for temporary textures, but the FF:TSW stills are so photo-like, that they work just as well.

Ok!! And rendered in standard Maya Renderer with Pixho's GI_Joe and then touched up in photoshop!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anywayz, I was testing out my WIP female Head Model ( Test Render.... Both Halves of the head are mirrored and unjoined in this pic (http://users.bigpond.net.au/sequel/TEMP7%20test%20From%20ALTGD.jpg) ) When, I decided to import some Poser Bodies and clothing to visualise what the end full-body model might look like with the head (I have a body in the works too).... and so, after several test renders , I got this image, which had some character to it, and I left it'd make a nice picture ;)

I'm not a big poser fan at all, but I do find the models handy for conceptualising, and visualisation.

However, about the pic... Since there's so many assets that aren't done by me, and so many things that are temporary or still in the works, I was confused as whether I should post this in the WIP or here, but since the *image* itself is finished, I decided to try it here...

Actually... I'm a bit scared of posting any poser-related thing in here, but my goal for this pic was to make an aesthetic image, soo here goes ;)

Thanks!

Thnx xeno! ;) I gotta work on finishing a body model of my own...

I gotta admit though, it's loads of fun just sticking bods and clothing on ur head models for fun... even if it's just using Poser ;)

It's a nice break, cuz after modeling a head, it's ageees and aggeess before u get around to making a whole body from scracth and then rigging, etc. So, temporary Poser models is fun for that :)

Here's another one test, using poser accessories again (body, hair, clothing)... Dressed her up like Milla's Character from the Res Evil Movie (hehe cosplay is silly)

Curious, why not model the rest of body in Maya if you already modeled the hardest part? Also, is that head NURBS, polys or Sub-D's?

Suggestions/Comments:

1. Model looks WAY plasticy, definetely need to tone down the spcularity on the skin or build and shade it ALL in Maya :p .

2. Hair looks better on the first render.

3. What kind of pose is that exactly, it's hard to tell what it is supposed to be, is she about to flick her hair or in the middle of a dance move?

Hiyas!

The Head is currently just polys, but will be converted to SubDiv's in the end ;) imho, the head is the most interesting part of a character, so I've been spending time on that and neglecting the need to get around to finishing the body... but I'll get around to it soon though... I really do have one in the works tho! just needs work ;)

Body Model I'm working on! (http://users.bigpond.net.au/sequel/bod_WIP.jpg)

The other thing is, I've mostly spent my time on various modeling projects, and haven't really got into rigging yet (it'll come though, I'm only a first year uni student and I start my fine Arts/Animation course this year! ;)

I'll make a post when the character is properly finished and textured and rigged :)... these pics were more of a spin-off from an muck-around session in Maya.

hehe yea, the skin does look a bit plasticy, also the hair too... Well, with the first picture, when the render came out, I thought, "Hey, that hair looks like lightweight plastic, almost like a figurine or something" (which I thought was kinda kewl, in a fanboy type of way lol) The second one reminds of a figurine too :P

However, The specularity will definetely be tweeked when I finish my own body model properly, and I definetely want to go for a realism approach (which was the plan originally ;)

Also, I will try and find a good solution to do proper hair too... and decide on a hairstyle... imho I like the second one better, but the first one is modeled better (and both samples are from poser atm). Umm, I'll have to get my sister to buy a girl's hairstyling book for me to reference ;)

lol The pose is a bit ambiguous, it was just a straight poser Preset (from Poses -> Female -> Conversations -> Happy) Although here she doesn't look like she's in conversation at all, with the facial expression :p

Anwyayz, that pose just appealed to me, cuz the direction of the fingers draw attention to the head, that's all ;) In retrospect, I woulda chosen something more dynamic, but I didn't realise that I'd get so sidetracked, at 3am no less ;)

Thanks for ur interest,
I love hearing what people think :)
