Title: Mesa Cruise
Name: James Hibbert
Country: USA
Software: After Effects, Lightwave 3D, Photoshop

This is an image that I did as a portfolio peice and was based on a story that I've been developing over a few years now. I probably would not have finnished it If Lee Stringer hadn't kept pushing me to do it so in a way it's his fault! :D Thanks Lee!

The complexity of how this image was peiced together requiered me to use AE instead of Photoshop for compositing, though I did use PS for some final touchups.

Tell me what you think.

Enjoy!

Absolutely love the motion this image have, I also like the composition but I think it probably would work better without the ship on the right. I feel like you rushed through the texturing process, the rocks, ground etc don't have enough variation in them and thus everything looks the same, even if that is the effect you were going for still needs more variation.

Keep up the good work man.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Snows,

I agree that everything looks very simmular, but that that was fairly intentional. Part of the story that this was based on was that what your looking at really isn't rock but junk and stuff covered with a kind of silt. So everything was made to look like it had been covored over millions of years caked mud. Prehaps I could have spent more time in developing that idea and at one point I had toyed with adding protruding bits of stuff like gurders and stuff. But I felt that it would have been too busy.

Now on a Technical lvl most of it is the same, I think next time I do somthing like this I will just use "game rez" gemetry and build the bits of stuff with normal maps on it all to kick it out. As it stand right now most of the pilliars are the same object, my goal here was to use as little parts as possable.
