Good day all,

I am working on a project with a few people. My job is to set up the scene, the materials and the textures for a render of a motorcycle. I am going to use vray 1.47, or maybe 1.5 if it comes out soon, and max 8 or max 9 if i can get it. I don't have the model yet, so my scene is very simple just to test the materials.

The goal is to get very very clean and smooth render. The surfaces needs to be with sharp reflections. The scene needs to have few colors and materials. I am going for black, red and white car paint, glass and chrome (or maybe 2 different metal materials). The background is changeable.

I have to use mental ray or vray. The render time is not important because we need several good renders (as long as it is reasonable to render that long). Here is a test scene with my current materials that I plan to use:

So guys I will appreciate all your comments, suggestions, and crits you can give me. Also you can download the scene and if you make something better please post changes, the render setups and the scene as well.

Thank you and hopefully we all will learn more for studio light renderings!

PS: the render is kind of long for just sveral teapots, but I adjust the lights and setup preferences considering I will have complex model of motorcycle in there.

hehe well i have to, I mean I have maya but I need to use max because my boss wants to involve that. He wants the render to look as a max render.

Cheers!

well... if u do it like this... u`ll have problems with time... that scene could be renderd in less then 5 minutes(at that resolusion).

i`m working with v-ray for about 6-7 months(not a very long time, but i`m not considering myself and expert)...

the materials look good. and the light setup also... try using a hdri for chrome studio effects... it will help. keep it up!

Lunaticu, you are tottaly right! I know how to get the same results in this particular scene, but when it get more complex will be a little bit different if I lower the quallity. anyways

Here I did a render with more complex geometry. So I think I have to sharpen the reflection, on the hood, also maybe it will be better if it is somehow brighter.
Note the left part where the lights are - it is a little bit pixelated. I have some stuff in mind and I will try improving it.

What you guys suggest?

looks preety good... yes... cars have sharp reflection. i have 2 questions...

1. How many sudivisions does the mat have?

2. What`s the spec of your computer?

[edit]: can u post your render settings? maybe i could sugest something... to make it faster to render.:)

1. refraction 50, reflection 8

2. i got PentiumD, Dualcore on 3.2 Ghz, 4Gb Ram, GuadroFX - Also I have access to render station.

and yes, in my first post there is a link to the max file I used. Here is it again: http://www.vankata.org/Data/vray-studiolights.zip

this is what i`ve got(the results are a bit difrent... cuz i`ve used a hdri map). As u can see the quality is almost the same and rendertime has been reduced.

i have pentium 4 3ghz (with HT) 2gb ram, nvidia 6600 LE(128 MB).

if u want the file to have a look of what i did... please tell me.

yeah, I admit that you reduced the render time but the materials is alot more grainy. I find my render alot more smoother espessially on the carpaints. And as I said it is important the quallity.

Thanks supporting and hellping man! I appreciate that!

I will keep trying to improve!
