NWoolridge 09-13-2006, 04:15 PM Lots of unrealistic movement, but fun none the less...

Hah Hah!
Gotta love it.
Try putting the Benny Hill intro audio to it :)
Can you use some "soft" rotation restrictions on the appendages.
Dont have phytools so I don't know if that is a possibility.

Fantastic stuff Nick!
I suppose if you were able to make bone deformers the colliion objects, then you could use for more than just block figures. Or just link bones to your blocks.
Ouch! Very cool tests

And I thought Buster had it bad on MythBusters...
Pretty cool tests. Reminds me of the sailers in the original King Kong falling off the log and landing in the spider pit.

Now there's an idea... I won't be able to get that music out of my head now...

Not so far, though its been requested. Another possibility, I suppose, is to model the ragdoll carefully to prevent inappropriate joint rotations; I might look at that next...

Hah! I can watch anything that has that audio track and laugh.
Have you ever played HalfLife 2 or Fear. Pretty good ragdoll sims in those games.

Oh man, I dont get on the internet for a day or so and I miss all the cool stuff..
Those tests look great. I just have one question. How well does the RIS joint system do with keeping strict angles like elbows and knees?. Can you set them to just rotate along single axis and also have constarints to them? I cannot tell by looking at he footage.
cheers

Showreel for a boot camp or are you simply frustrated Nick? ;) Really cool tests, love the one where the hit object comes from the front and from the back. Poor guy. :)

...or the gang falling off the fire truck ladder and electrical wires at the end of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." Mamaaaaaaaaaaa!
Side ntoe: Peter Jackson recreated the spider pit sequence using traditional models and stop motion as an extra on the King Kong DVD...

Man I LOVED It's a Mad....World! I believe that was actually Willis Obrien doing that firetruck scene. A lot of that was stop motion.
And yes, I did watch that scene they did on the DVD. It looks like they took a LOT of time recreating that.
Cool stuff...

Killer!! Digital Jackass indeed.
Any chance you'd be willing to share your "victim" with us? I haven't the faintest idea how to rig a character...
Ouch. Take that, you polygon boy!
Can you reveal techniques behind this? Did you just create the primitive character, rigged it then started bashing and throwing things at him? Does the rigged character automatically react to phytools sim or does it take some extra steps to make phytools understand the rigged?
Excellent job, fun to watch:)

This is just using the motor/joint system in Phytools. I created a model from cube primitives, added joint tags to each object to define how it related to the other objects (joint type), and added null objects to define the pivot points for the joints. The objects are all placed under a null with the rigidsim tag added. The workflow is not optimal at the moment, and we are discussing the possibility of adapting to existing joint rigs and constraints; we'll see what's possible...
Here are some more examples:

^^this one has an initial velocity on the character

^^this one is all physics, no keyframing. Plays in real time in the editor...

Yes--he should try a cow next time ;)
In the second one, the catapult has a very nice subtle sense of mass/weight as it comes up and hits the bar--that I think might be difficult to keyframe.
