I had a friend tell me that when cg intro movie are created for games, that the studios would create the characters using high polygon counts and detail and then "scale down" the models using a polygon reducer tool. This process doesn't seem right, since theres alot thats modeled in the movies that doesn't need to be in the characters.

Is this process how studios and game developers approach CG intro/game creation?

I don't think so. Probably they take away all the detailing objects and leave only the base mesh of the character which then is reduced in polys and retextured. That's what I suppose.

Yeah, I've always heard it's two totally seperate models.
