AUSTIN, Texas--More than 5,000 online game development teams have lined up to become part of a network based on a platform that makes it cheap and efficient for nearly anyone to create a new online game.

Neat, I think. Is this a game engine or something? I didn't quite understand it.

I was at AGC, and saw their presentation. It essentially lets you create mods for an MMO, they just have to be total conversions. Very much needed, imho, and I think a great thing for consumers. Hopefully we'll see a wide variety of high-quality titles with innovative mechanics, similar to what has happened with FPS mods like counter strike or the quake grappling hook.

The convenience of having a single client for all the games developed with Multiverse is also cool. However, I don't think this will be a really big deal until they start helping out with servers, which they said was planned for some time in the future.

Thread resurection time...

Multiverse is on its way, in Open Beta now and releasing a 1.0 version this summer, many projects have been started by lots of different teams. The big thing holding back many of the multiverse projects now is lack of artists, as one such designer trying to put together a team its extrordinarily difficult when theres no publisher or monetary incentives to speak of.

If anyone is interested in working on a project or even just selling or distributing models for the community to use I'm sure there are plenty of wannabe designers who would thank you.
