View Full Version : Animating a spider
z3lda 01-29-2003, 05:51 AM Hi, I have a lowpolygon model of an 8 legged spider I want to animate, but have no idea where to start. Anyone know of any links to references on the leg motion of an 8 legged spider?

z3lda - I can't find any links yet, but the book "[Digital] Character Animation 2: Volume 2 - Advanced Techniques" by George Maestri has it at page 166-167. Try to get your hand on one of this book in your book store or from your friends.
Sorry that I am not much of a help...

EDIT:
with 6 legged creatures, 3 legs stay on the ground. I would think 4 legs would stay down, at least three though on an 8legger. I would see it as the legs 2 and 3 on the right side and 1 and 4 on the left side are the same.
or maybe 2 and 4 on the right and 1 and 3 on the left... Would be easier to walk like that I *think*. That keeps the tripod form, but when I visualize it, it doesn't seem right.
XSI has a plugin called multiped and Lightwave has one called C______ something something.
