This is my effort. I started at 10:37 pm and finished at 10:59 using Artrage 2. My baby I'm sure is the Dark lord.

30-ish minutes. Photoshop. The Dark Lord Voldemort is my hero!

Edit: Oh darn I forgot, all credits of characters go to Ms. J.K.Rowling of course, but if this goes against the rules, go ahead and take it off. It's just fanart sketch though for practice with some brushes.

Lucavi - there's something quite Luis Royo[esque] about your pic. In fact, if your Dark Lord was clutching a nymphette in a suggestive pose and and a semi-transparent slip, you'd have that whole look down :D

Nice work Brittany. My monitor is actually permanently offset (I'm having problem's recalibrating it), but Photoshop's colour profile makes up for it somewhat. A lot of the time I upload pics here (I use a Mac for non-design related things, go figure) and they lose a little something. Yours looks good though! The sketchy lines in the background make me think of marionettes for some reason. Could be a Dark Puppetmaster :)

I considered drawing Lord Voldemort, but I though I didn't have time to do any decent fanart in 25 min...

So I went for something more random... Not that it's any decent either, but oh well. I didn't check the other entries before drawing this, but I would have liked to draw something like Brittany's piece. Oh well, maybe next time, or in my dreams...

Lucavi - Thanks. I always enjoy seeing your sketches. They are so imaginative and beautifully rendered.

JimiPhoenix - Thanks. A Dark Puppetmaster, eh? Sounds good to me.

May-lea - I think your sketch is lovely. I think you have really improved over these past few weeks - in quickness and in quality. Keep up the good work.

First time tablet user and first time Daily Sketcher. I haven't had the thing more than a few hours and I figured what better way to break it in than a trial by fire (ahhh.. sorry for the pun on the picture :D ). Lemme know what you think since I don't really have any experience to base the outcome on. Cheers!

danielh68, very nice. I like the character design, particularly the face and headgear.
thebigxer, good flame effects and pallete
Paleraven06, welcome! I like the way you used color for shading - warm on the left, cool on the right
robertt, dramatic! And an interesting take on the topic.
Eurayo, excellent fire. The dreadlocks and flames tie the picture together well
toastmonster, great teaparty!
May-lea, glowing effects on the armor really pop out. I tried the same effect, but less sucessfully.
Inchoatos, an interesting start, nice and loose
Silken Shadow, It took me a moment to see the body. A translucent effect might have been interesting to try as well.
lucavi, disturbing and wonderful
BrittanyRichardson, excellent eye on the clothing. Well thought out and designed. I also like the lines in the background as mentioned above.

Hey Gauntman, here's my trick to make a glow: Paint what's going to be glowing on a separate layer (using the gimp, I don't know opencanvas but I doubt you can do that). If the glow is going to be the same as the glowing element, pick a bright colour with no black at all. If not, it doesn't really matter, you'll correct that later.

Duplicate that layer once. Colour correct to get a bright colour if applicable. Duplicate it again.
Apply a gaussian blur (if available) to the first duplicate layer, using a small radius. Adjust it so you see the glow close to the original shape. Apply another blur on the second layer, with a bigger radius. Then put the original layer on top of the two duplicates. You have your glow!

You can now paint the reflection of your light on nearby objects if you want, using the same colour as the glow.

Well that's how I do anyway. The effect is more obvious when the background is dark, too.

Thanks for the comment, too :)

Brittany, thanks for the comment as well. I'm trying hard to improve but it's not always easy :)

And here is my "Dark Lord". The concept is a bit inspired by the Witch King (Think he is called the Witch King) from Lord of the Rings.

It took 20-25 mn. In Photoshop

Thanks for the explaination, May-lea. It makes a lot of sense - I always forget about image filters when sketching! I will need to try this out and see how it works.

yes i guess it is very spawn with those colours... part of the reason I wanted to change them...but oh well...McFarlane is king.

There are some great ones in here (and great topic too!) Chris (thanks you inspired me to pop in here - and then I couldn't resist), Vyse-soa, Dominus: Like the feel of yours :) and so many more

This is extremely impressive - how some of you folk (Dominus, lucavi, Brittany Richardson, Vyse-soa and others) can manage to get those things done i such a short amount of time is beyond my understanding.

Never the less, my try at this subject. If there's a cliché out there that I haven't struck, please tell me... Photoshop, 25 minutes.
