Well here is a brain stumbler. Making a CD look likes a CD when you rotate it. I have been making an award with a CD on it. Now on still Images I got it looking good. Buy pasting a Photo of the back of a CD on to the model. The trick is now when you rotate it; it looses all its illusion that it really is a CD.

So the question would be: Can you Set up a material that will Accurately show the effect of light coming off a CD? (rainbow effect)

This is Purely for interest’s sake to see if it can be done.

But a trick I used was to rotate the CD on its Z-axis as well as its X-axis. Sort of looks better. But you don’t get any colour change.

use the spectral shader (Shader->Spectral) switch on cd mode.

ah, in that case try putting a bhodinut lumas channel which has been made white with anisotrophy switched on a wide highlight inside of a bhodinut colouriser that contains a spectrum like gradient... that's should start to get towards what you want.

Actually, with v.7 you are entitled to download a free version of the spectral shader from Cebas. Good luck finding it and getting it activated, though. :(
