View Full Version : How do I make a script autostart?
MichaelDarkAngel 09-10-2006, 10:25 PM So, I have my custom script in the startup folder. That does well for preloading it into memory, however I still need to open the script editor and call it with the procedure name (Actually I created a shelf item to do that for me).
What I would like to do is have the script autostart after Maya has finished loading.
What do I need to do in order for that to happen?
Thanks,
MDA

create a file called "userSetup.mel" and put it in
your scripts folder. Write your command to call yor proc into this file.
Save and restart maya.

Thank You.
Just enough information to point me in the right direction. And I say that because I didn't give you enough information.
On a windows PC it needs to go into the scripts folder in your 'My Documents/maya/<Version>/' directory.
Which is where I needed to place it. I first tried in the install directory, but it wouldn't work there. So I searched the help file for userSetup and found my answer.
Linux and Mac need to go into different directories.
Thanks again for the help, much appreciated,
MDA

Glad you found I tried to imply the userScripts folder by saying "your" folder.
Should have been more specific.
Anyway, have fun
