View Full Version : geometric transparency
two.oh 01-28-2003, 10:18 PM does anyone know how to make geometry transparent over time? like over a period of 5 seconds i want a piece of geometry to fade out from the scene with the rest of the scene in tact.
i know its possible in max, but i dunno how to do it in maya.

You'll have to animate the object's Transparancy,
The Visibilty option isn't the same as in Max, it's only either On or Off.

yea i know, but i cant find the option to animate it.......i dont want it on/off, i want it to slowly change the transparency, and i dunno wher eto do that.
i know i can animate the texture, but i dunno about the geometry, and yesss, ive pressed f1 and still cant find it.

You can't animate the geometry fading away, it has to be the transparency.

You can not slowly make geometry disappear. If you apply a texture, then make it's transparency go from 0 to 1, then it'll work. This is the only way. The geometry has to stay.
Of course, after you animate the transparency for the shader, you can then turn the visibility to off for the object.
