View Full Version : Elder Tosho
so_hi 03-18-2002, 12:02 AM This is a character that I have been working on for a personal film project. I call him Elder Tosho.
Here is the concept drawing.

Here is where I am at with the model, so far.
It is basically done, I don't really like the pack in the concept, so I am going to replace it with a side slung bag\satchel.

the only thing I can see from here are the forearms and hands. They look flat and boxy. Not nice and round like the rest of the body. The flow of the character stops at the elbow.

the model is nice :) but it is gonna have some walking problems,
i can imagine that animating this character is a real challenge, next time u should be planning how a character will animate before u even tackle one vertix! this one with those big folded legs will have a funny unrealistic movements and will act off the hook :wip:
good luck

I love a challenge. :D
I think I have it worked out, though.
I still have to rig him, when that is done I will post a motion test.
And by the way the position that he is in is a rest position, for his legs anyway, he will be much more upright when walking.
okay so the head look like a cacricature of an alien a little bit ,the proportion are funny ,those big feet and irregular legs he have a friendly looking ,cool model iam looking forward to see the anim.
good luck:buttrock:
I love it great work , cant wait to see the finished product

JUST .....GRRRRREAT!!!
The concept is as good and precice as the 3D.
Really great. The problem HERE is your ILLUMINATION.
It makes the char look BORING.
Try something else.

yeahh!!!
Really great, just a couple of things.
I think he has too many polygons, but if you can work with that mesh, it's ok. I like simple meshes, that's all
And show us a cool pose, like the one in the concept drawing (really cool BTW) or something similar.
Since the original model has a strange pose (I mean the legs), I guess you're not going to animate it, are you?
great job, so_hi

Frinsklen, I was a 2d animator first, and you got to animate everything, the harder the better, that's where the life is, Plus the more you learn. I hope to rigg him soon, but I think I am going to texure him first.
But I will try to keep on it.

I like the concept developement for your character very much, from 2D to 3D. I too also came from 2D animation and went into 3D.
I visited your site and enjoyed your drawings best, they're very nice. I love the way you capture the motion and enable a sense of characature in the design. Very, very nice.
Hope to see more from you soon.

Nice model ! May I ask what you modeled / rendered him in?

;) Very HOT modell , excellent Work.
What 3Dpackage have you used?
Max or Maya?

I started with Maya, then finished it with Xsi the Head and neck was made entirely in Xsi. I rendered it in Xsi (I put the white spot in with Photoshop)
I love me some Xsi. :bounce: :applause: :bounce:

ahh you cant please everyone i personaly love it it has great presence and potental keep it going
great character, very nice concept...
All I can say is: too boxy arms/hands
you could also save some polygons in the head...
and theproportions are not excatly the same than in the sketch, and I think it was better in the sketch...
Heh as soon as I saw the wireframe I was like that has to be softimage|xsi.
What made you go over to XSI to finish the model ? That's great to hear though <sorry Maya ppl>.
Keep it up.

I like the modeling tools better, extrude face/edge on curve, the ref button is mind blowing, the spit edges with slpit control, the list goes on and on, then mental ray.
Need I say more. :applause: :applause: :applause:

toce I changed the proportions on purpose the head huge, like in the concept, would be way to difficult for framing plus to heavy looking for his thin neck. I just like his feets big, grounds him for me. I will work on the hands and forarms.
Thanks for the input though.

Hey so_hi, already gave u my comments.
Take a look at my thread - THE ANCESTOR - I dunno why but I'd love our 2 chars side by side.
COULD u please post a render of your char with the same type of illumination as in my scene??? PLS!
So Hi,
Yeah I completely agree with you on the modelling tools.
You going to animate\fully texture the object soon?
Keep it up man.
