View Full Version : Modeling a Hardcover Book - I'm a beginner, need help!

Hello! :) Thanks for reading!
Well - I can make two rectangular planes, but I've no idea how to bend a binding from the edge of one to the edge of another, connecting them seamlessly. Nor have I have idea what I'll do to create the illusion of pages within rather than just a single "page-stack-shaped" object.
Any ideas? I'm using a combination of Wings 3D and Maya, and can get the thing into Zbrush for a bit if I need to. Thanks!!

Hello! I continue to try to model the book, but now I've run into a strange problem. There is a "lip" along the edge of the pages while in smooth shading mode, and I don't know what might be causing it! Take a look...

Looks like it'll be okay...

But then it gets lipped:

This lip glitch occurs on both sides of the book, but, strangely, ONLY when your view is in front of them...as you can see, the pages in the back appear to be okay...but were you to spin the view around, there would be a lip there too.

Any ideas? Thanks!!! :)

Hi there,
Well dont know about Maya or wings, but could use max for some help.Ok attached some images. You can have a look at them, hopefully might help! And you will need to chamfer the edges of the corners of the pages poly object. And you can give the illusion of the pages by texturing, and using fine lines of bump in bump mapping..
