searching the manuals or downloading some example shaders or examining the shader library from maya could be a good point to start from? :surprised
connect the color to the color of the shader and the transparency to the transparency..

The alpha channel won't work for transparency unless you have maya 4.5. If you have 4.5, then just choose your file for color for the shader applied to the "fence."
If you have a version earlier than 4.5, then you have to make a separate black and white image and apply that to the transparency. In case you don't know, a black and white is what will work. What is black is invisible, and what is white is visible.

emm.. no
the alpha channel works without doing it in a seperate file.. even before maya 4.5.
there only might be the need to reverse it but it works.
cheers
