View Full Version : Character: Anime girl in short pyjamas

1400 triangles, fully rigged.
This was based on a sketch I did a few weeks ago, and is actually my first fully completed human 3D character. I wanted to make a simple 3D character fully articulated and try for anime-style cel shading, whilst keeping the polygon count low. Hope you like it.
There's also some animations with this character, I'll maybe upload those later :) I may develop this character at a later date, but more than anything I see this as the foundation for further 3D character models.
Please let me know what you think and give any tips. I'll be making more low poly (1000-1500) cartoon style characters soon, so any pointers for improvements would definitely be appreciated at this stage.
Thanks!

Great job!
Everyone nowadays seem to be using the Cel-shading for their characters. Some are suitable for it and some aren't.
Personally I think this DEFINATELY suits the cel look as its got a very MANGA look to it.
Is it for anything in particular, or is it just for experience?

idd that's true, it fits this character veeeeeery good, and I think the cell-rendering is a hype since Ubi started to work on XIII (I think, I'm not that long in the CGscene)

Thanks gmoran!
I agree with the comment regarding cel-shading. As much as I am a fan of the technique, I think it should be used sparingly and only for characters designed for it from the outset. I'm pleased you feel this character works well with cel shading technique. ^_^

It's just for practice more than anything. It was based on a sketch I did. I have to do a set of four low poly cel shaded characters soon, so I wanted to have a bit of practice before I jumped head first into that project. I feel much better prepared now, although I know there's some things I could improve on future models. It's all part of the learning process I guess.
Thanks again for the comments, and let me know if you have any advice for improvements in future models.

Wow! I feel like crap now, I haven't posted a single thing yet. Maybe it's because I suck, hehe. I'll probably post something next week, school is such a pain in the ass. Anyways, great job I love the character and would love to see it fully animated.
