View Full Version : 349 Expressions Commands doc
Wireframes 09-08-2006, 10:41 PM Is there anyone who knows where I can find the doc of these commands without open the program ?
Thanks
Phil
P.S : I have converted the complete documentation in PDF format from the Pmg source doc (chm format). If someone is interested I can upload it somewhere (do I need Pmg agreement ?).
I have made it to do a little book in A5 format (easy reading for me ;) ).

Good idea. You'll definitely need PMG's approval to upload! I am very much hoping that the next release will come with much updated manuals - though I have no idea when that'll be. The key to manuals is real world examples - a few per effect - that would be great!!!

They're in the docs
In the generalinfo chapter
"path" would be
Docs/generalinfo/Expressions and messiah script/Functions/by name
or by category.
They're mixed in with the script functions, but All seem tyo be listed

The docs aren't complete, but you can also look into the "function_list.txt" in your temp\messiah directory where all installed functions (some of them are plugins or scripts) are listed with short descriptions.
This file is generated on each messiah start.

Yes this is the pb ...
but you can also look into the "function_list.txt" in your temp\messiah directory where all installed functions (some of them are plugins or scripts) are listed with short descriptions.
Mmmh not easy to find the good one ;)
EDIT : For the doc in PDF this is just easier to make a book (A5 format) ;)
It's a book I read and re-read :)

I've been trying to find a way to turn the CHM file into a PDF! Please tell us how, or if it's permissible please share the PDF! It would be much appreciated.

Can someone suggest a software to process PDF and HTML among other docs?
Thanks in advance

WOW! Book looks cool. I'd love for PMG to doa proper manual like that for its next release! I'm one of those few remaining individuals (?) that still prefers a good well written manual to videos for the main application functions....Call me old fashion but that's how I like it.
Spiral bound aswell, preferably wired!
Great job you've done there - I'm jealous! I'm hoping that the docs will be really looked at for the next release then, with a little instruction from yourself (!) I'll do the same.
Looks like you've done a great job! Hey PMG - why not get wireframes (if he's interested) to do the manual!! :scream:

I'd kill for a hard copy of the manaul! Not to mention a newly written manual with more renderer stuff in it! I'm not a fan of reading long sections like that on the monitor since I'm easily distracted by other thing so having a hard copy of my manuals is key. Seriously though, how did you convert the help to pdf? I want to head to my copy center right now and have it printed out! :D

.CHM is Microsoft Compressed HTML. See this article for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Compressed_HTML_Help
There is also an example at the bottom on how you can extract the original HTML files, images etc. - besides that, there are several apps available which can do this also.
Microsoft Help Workshop is the free tool I used to create the docs for AoN: Studio...
After extraction, you have a bunch of webpages in html, which you can then convert to pdf by using tools like GoLive, Word etc.
But honestly I can't see why pmG should have any problems with Wireframes making his PDF available to interested parties. He doesn't claim he wrote them and he neither is selling them (although a print on demand version would be a good idea  ).
Since pmG wasn't able to provide something like this for the last 6 years although the demand was always there, I can't see any bad thing in users doing it on their own. Helping users to better use messiah is a good thing :-)

I agree Thomas, I just wish they'd update the docs so that when they're printed out and made all nice' they're also complete! I know, I'll get mine all ready and printed and then they'll release the new docs  (well I hope anyway).
Been soooo quiet from PMG again  Any comment on if there are going to be new docs would be welcome.....

well, when choosing a software called "messiah", you are bound to be prepared for endless hoping and waiting (or at least several thousand years ;-) ), so better get used to it :p
I personally am dead tired of it, so everything I CAN improve I do on my own. :arteest:
And for everything else I use a different software.
And with each of pmGs dead silent phases, the "everything else" part is growing.

wow don't know it was so interesting thread ;)
Well the conversion was not so easy because I have found some pb in chm format file. I have done some transformation to have better printing.
Well, I have to write to pMG before to upload the manual.
There is actually 15 files (30 Mo) this is not perfect but it's fully ergonomic in the printing form.
Thanks for your comments :bounce:
