View Full Version : Something similar to Lume Tools? (Texturing landscapes.)
Eudaimic 03-17-2002, 10:21 PM Hey all,
I'm slaving away at an animation for uni, it involves a flyby of an island (that's the quick version right there :D). I used Vue 4 to do the island itself, however the exporting capabilities of Vue proved to be quite crappy.
so I turned to Lume Tools from Digimation for my texture, and although a bit rigid in its workings, it's results are pretty nice. In fact I'm done with that part now.
But I'm using the demo version, and it'll only last me 5 days :(. So I'm looking for an alternative free plugin or something like that which will allow me to do a procedurally generated texture based on the height and slope information of the object it's used on.

Don't take this wrong, but what about buying the plug-in?
Or does Uni mean University?
I'm not famililer with those plugin(s) but would suggest that perhaps you could output the map(s) it is generating and simplify the scene down to standard max object types and mapping, a work around the limitation.

Uni does indeed mean university, and although I'm getting fond of Lume, it's $200 price tag is a biiit over what I'm whilling to shell out just to create a landscape for a project.
Yeah, the only way around it is a high res orthographic render of the island from above. That's just so rigid, but it's the way I have to go if I don't find another solution...
I just find it odd that lume is the only procedural plugin of its kind... how do people get along with out it :D

*cough*The falloff material*cough*
Seriously tho, you can do that kind of masking with the falloff material... Read up on it in the manual or the helpfile. And experiment! There are lots of different settings you can use in the falloff material

I thought the falloff material would always be dependent on the camera angel and position?
... /me scatters to dig up the manual.

Okay I'll stop replying to my own thread now. Just wanted to say that I'm pretty sure it was www.scriptspot.com that was referred to. Now if I only knew where that post was so I could thank that gentleman.

Well the site is great! I dunno why I haven't stumbled onto it before!
But what did you call those two scripts again? (Assuming that it was you who posted?)

one is called 'Vulcania' the other is err, um, deepvalley free I think - deepvalley is the one that has a texturing thingie & if you go to the makers website they have something called shadevalley or something similar which is a more advanced landscape texturing thingie*
*thingie is a highly technical term & I will not have anyone taking the piss! ;)
