View Full Version : WIP Nurbs Seaplane in Maya
Undseth 01-28-2003, 03:32 PM Im pretty new to CGtalk and usually hang around at some other site, but I just wanted to show a project that is near completion.
The cockpit is missing along with some minor details on the fuselage, but that's all that stand in between me and the texturing job.
I'll apply bumpmaps to give that fuselage that special "dented/recessed/skinned" look.
Most surface parts were made with nurbs. The engine, wheel and some other minor stuff are made with plolygon modeling.
The nurbs surfaces will be converted to polys at the end of the modling.

Thanks!
Say,I think that is an german seaplane? Am I right?
Must be one of those pre WW2 planes I guess.
The Grumman "Duck" was manifactured around 1933.
How did you model the propellers? I used a 10 span cylinder, tweaked it to a general shape and used one of the deform tools in the animation menu.
deform --> Create Nonlinear --> Twist (I think)
You have to delete the history to keep the derformation.
Works great this way. Took only 20 minutes for the blades, which is a lot less time spent, than the former propeller I did some time ago. I tweaked the damn thing for an eternity. :)

The two small floaters were simply made with the loft tool in maya. The end cv's were positioned together to cap the lofted surface.
I'll do some modeling of the cockpit later today.
