Usually swords have more profiled blades. I know it`s a fantazy sword but usually real swords does have rather simple hilts covered with deer skin or thin, twisted wire. It musn`t hurt the hand holding it. Check the swords from LOTR. Those were based on real weapons from medival age. Below is a reference, from real weapons and replicas, of a "medival" look of weapons.

Excellent point. Although it is a nice ornamental model, you are gonna rip your hands to shreds if you try and wield it!!

well.. maybe that could be one of those magical weapons that damage you with every swing.. but have other magical properties.. ancient crazy blacksmiths making weird swords.. thats fantasy..

Actually, I based this model on a real 15th-century Spanish sword althought I'm sure it was just ornimantal(it belonged to some King I think :shrug: ) I agree, the idea of using a sword like this would be sort of insane. :argh:
